Connecting a dreambox to existing motorised dish

I've just got a dreambox to replace my technmate 5400ci, but haven't yet got a null cable to flash the box.

quick question, as my dish is already aligned to the various satellites ow hdo i tune the dreambox in to these, is there a set procedure? i used disq 1.2 to sort the technomate out as i couldn't get uslas to work.

I had a quick loot at that and it only says about setting up a sat with a fixed dish?

        What Dreambox do you have..???

        This is for a 800

1 Go into Setup and Select Start Wizard
2 Use Wizard to set up Basic Features/ hit OK
3 Configuration Mode/ toggle the left and right buttons until Simple appears
4 Mode/ toggle this until is shows Positioner
        5 Put in you Longitude
6 Put in you Latitude and then exit the Wizard

I've got a dreambox500s, i've just put the gemimi 4.20 image but can't find any satellites, is doing the procedure above using usals as i couldn't get this to work on my technomate so i manually put in each sat.

can i do this with the dreambox, do i have to import satellite and channels lists first?

sorry about all the questions but after putting the image on and setting up the communication i'm a bit lost

my dish is currently pointing at thor 1w

do manual search you .. select1w sat on in the menus and search i do this on the dm800. i had problems initally i used my technomate to point to point to 28.5e then connected my dm800 went into tune setting inoputed mt longitude and latitude (use same settings as your technomate) select astra and scan (manual)

thanks for that, i have manged to scan thor 1w now and have channels for that sat, next question is how do i now do this for each different satellite?

On the technomate i could add a transponder for a certain sat, then manually move the dish with the remote until i had a good quality signal level.

can the same be done on a dreambox?

just choose the next sat you want to scan

edit your satellite.xml file to fit the sats in range..

                check here..

                to make one

EDIT.. try this from another user..

Its Usals,it doesnt work properly on the 500s.
I was confident my physical setup was correct.
I deduced it must have been a software prob.
I was using Usals setup and had entered my exact location correctly.
Could only pick up 2 bloody satellites,5w and 8w.
Decided I'd turn off usals and do it the manual way.
Started at 8w,then moved east until I hit 5w.
Then went to 13E and moved the dish slightly east in steps .
                Hit 13e,16e,19e and 28.2.
I have about 20 sats tuned in now,all good signal.
I spent ages trying to get Usals to work but it was useless.
This is what I did to get it to work

The DM500s doesn't support gotoXX. The long way is to use stored positions is described below.

Please note that your zero satellite (1W in this example) will depend on where you are in the world.

Go to Menu > service searching > motor setup

                Mode: drive to zero

                and press go

Then change the mode to position and select 1W:

                Satellite: 1W
                Drive the motor to zero.

                Mode: Position
                Satellite: 1W

then use the < > arrows to move the dish until you get a lock. STORE the position (I use the same number as the satellite).

                Then SEARCH.

Repeat for 13E, 19E, 28E, storing the position for each.

If you use gotoXX you shouldn't have to do it but I couldn't get it to work with my 7020 (and it doesn't work at all with a 500s).

Your screens and options may vary slightly depending on the Dreambox model and image that you have.

                Extra info:

Mode is position, drive to zero and a few options.

SATELLITE has the list of satellites.

In simple terms you drive the motor back to zero so you have a fixed position.

Then you change the MODE back to position, select the satellite from the list next to SATELLITE.

Then you move the motor (dish) using the < > arrows (these move the dish east and west).

When you get a lock on the satellite you chose, you store it's position and then go to the next menu screen and scan it.

none of that actually makes any sense for the image i'm using. I don't know how to manually move the motor with the remote and then store the satellites in that position

very frustrating, i get all the channels ok on 1w, even tried entering my longitude and latitude to see if i could ge goto x to work, and although it moves the motor, it doesn't move it to the correct postion for 1w so all the others are going to be wrong.

anyone help before i give up..please!!

my light only comes on the motor when i try to move it..

have you set up your Lat / Long on the box and aligned the dish correctly to Thor
