    DM500s colours

    Hi All

    Just a quick question

Does the image loaded onto a DM500 effect the colours and brightness?, I am using commando14.7 and the colours seem to very bold and the brightness could do with a tweek, compared to terrestrial signal. I am obviously using scart which is individually screened, gold plated etc.

I appologies but this is my first DM and my first look at an image.

    Thanks in advance

PS great software, once set very easy to use

Have you had a look in the main menu settings to see if the Scart output is set to either CVBS or RGB this could help

you need it set to one or the other preference to picture quality starts with RGB - Svideo - CVBS in that order

Yes, there are 2 options that the picture is more or less the same and 1 where it is black and white (s-video I think). The other 2 look very similar in terms of colour and brightness. I have it set to RGB at the moment.

I would also check which scart connector on the back of your TV you have it plugged into as a general rule if the TV has 2 or 3 scart connectors normally only AV1 has RGB enabled

            Worth a Try

I have a Samsung LCD and it only has 1 scart. I am assuming that the signal is not affected by whatever image I use and should be the same even if I used openpli, is this assumption correct?

                2 more questions
1 how do I know if my scart output is RGB or CVBS?#
2 any benefit from using a scart to component cable in place of the scart to scart?

Many thanks for all assistance so far

I would imagine that the scart input on your samsung LCD is RGB compatible which is the highest factor for picture quality wise that SCART can produce, I take it your LCD has one of those adaptor cables that plugs into the side of the TV with a Scart connector on the other end.

a Scart to component is useless as again its a different format and works the other way around ie: it down converts Component output to Scart RGB or CVBS so would not work in your case.

Another option would be to get hold of a Phono to scart adaptor which is basically the CVBS connection on the back of the 500 the Yellow/Red/White to Scart socket to see if that improves picture quality

The connections on my Samsung are Scart, Component & HDMI

I have a few composite to scart adapters and the composite cables that came with the box, but isn't that a lesser quality picture than scart? or am I unlikely to notice the difference?

On a new Plasma/LCD i dout you would tell much difference on an older CRT tube then you could possibly spot some difference but hardly anything now.

CVBS is the lowest stndard yes as i expalined in my previous post CVBS being the lowest and RGB being the highest via scart connection.

Without going way back to the late 70's and 80's when we have Video's with BNC phono connectors the list should look something like this from bottom to top: CVBS - Svideo - RGB - Component - DVI - HDMI

Having tried different cables, I feel the scart to scart offers the best picture and sound.

Out of interest? does the image installed on the box effect the picture quality or are they all much the same?

I have installed Lots of different images on my own 500 and personally cannot see much difference if any to be honest, I would imagine they are all pretty much the same
