Fresh Newbie with no idea !!

Hi all,

I decided 2 weeks ago to puchase a Black box (500s) but with no manual i am finding it hard to pick up the forums lingo. for a start the screen that presents its self has a large DK on the front is this what you call an Image ? If so is this the image that can download the scambled pics from a satellite ? or have i got to some how FLASH a new image for this to work ? I have worked out how to get some unscrambled pics onto the screen but no unsrambled. I keep seeing threads about Addons but none actually explaining in detail ( Press button 1 then 2 etc) they assume we all have sceince degrees or are computer experts . all i wish is for help in watching S-y Sp-rts through my box . Is their anyone out there who can advise me or guide me to other relative Threads.

Another Newbie with Problems

Im exactly the same as you i bought a Black Box 500 and i dont have the slightest clue how to set up ...All i want is sly sborts and cartoon channels for kids its really doing my head in i have exactly the same box as you y sounds of it so all help is much appreciated

sorry mate if you bought your box for sky its been a waste of money..

the dreambox does not open sky without cardsharing which is extremely complex..
sky's encryption is un-open.. its not like the cable scene

the satellite box requires savy IT knowledge and is best used to open European channels only on different satellites to Sky's 28E..

All you will view with your Blackbox / Dreambox on Sky is free channels like BBC ITV etc

i dont think people know they are really mini PC's with satellite tuners.. i think, they think that they are similar to patchable boxes..

Ebay is littered with boxes bought for sky.. you can pick up some right cheap gems.. i got my mate a D500 clone for ?20

My brain says I should go with opsmonkey and at least ask them to try and solve the problem but my heart says sod it tell them the answer. Its case of the old 'give a man fish and he will eat for the day, give him a fishing rod and he will eat for life'. I guess we both know who is right.

So could any of you guy's recommend an alternative, i have cable installed but only have free stuff is there an easier solution to get all channels?

mate any 3rd party cable receiver can be patched to open all channels on cableTV services

but not for much longer.. Nagra3 is soon to be rolled out and non VM cable boxes will be FTA channels only

The box i have is SMT 210 C Sansung V Box, but i was going to buy a new 1 or dont i have to ? Can this box be patched ? Im a bit thick when it comes to this kinda stuff

No you have an official Virgin Box.. that cant be patched

My advice is wait and see what happens when Nagra3 rolls out..

As for your Blackbox you wont get encrypted Sky channels on Free To Air..
