how to connect dreambox using 3G

This was asked before but i cant get the thread. Basically i want to send a dm500s clone to a place where there is no broadband, no dial-up. The only internet available is 3G from a mobile company. There is no mobile broadband either. Only 3G and GPRS.

Is there a way i can connect this 3G to the dm500?

What equipment do i need. What cables? cost isnt an issue as long as the dm500 brings picture to the TV

I was looking at things like data cards and mobile broadband routers. Will these allow me to send internet to the dm500?

    Thanks good people

If there is 3g then you could use either a mobile broadband router (preferred option) or a 3g usb modem, a laptop/pc and a crossover cable between the laptop/pc and your dreambox. If you are going for option 2 then you'll need to setup ICS between your 3g modem and your PCs network port. If you are using the 3g modem and PC option then your pc will need to be switched on all the time you want the dreambox working.

The first option of mobile broadband router seems more straight forward. Is it a case of just inserting my sim card into the router and connect the router with the dreambox via a normal eathernet cable? or i need a Pc as well for this to work? I wanted to avoid switching on the pc everytime im watching TV.

Another thing, since this is a mobile broadband modem, will my 3G only sim work in it?

The mobile broadband router option will work by just putting a sim in it and plugging an ethernet cable directly from the router to the dreambox.

2g or 3g simcard would be fine, most mobile routers revert to 2g if a 3g connection is not available.

All the mobile broadband routers im getting online are only used with a dongle. You put the sim in the dongle an then inset it on the USB port of the router.

Im sure if i continue searching i will get the router which takes sim card direct without going via a dongle

hmm.. the thread was only on page 2..

if you want a specific router speak to your Mobile Broadband provider and ask them if they do one.. then search the internet for the cheapest price

if its only a GPRS connection it wont work.. the data transfer is not fast enough.. You really need to be in a HSDA
also if you dont have a mobile broadband sim or bolt on you will be paying for the connection by the minute with a standard 3G sim

for example the O2 iPhone sim's have bolt on's to use unlimited Wi-Fi / Mobile Broadband data downloads, if you were to use a standard O2 3G sim it would cost you a fortune.. ?3 per MB
