    Cannot flash Dreambox via null modem

    Hi friends.
    I tried to flash my DM 500 from Gemini 4.6 -> Pli Jade 3 by uploading image as root.cramfs in /tmp.
    Unfortunately, didn't work(it showed it was flashing the device) and now when i switch it on the Green LED just lights up for around 5 mins then turns off.

    So, i'm trying to flash via Null modem cable(via usb to serial adapter) but the box isn't being detected by DreamUP (but when i switch on dreambox it sends this something like that on serial port: \0xff\0xff\0xff\0xa1\0xfa\0xff\0xff (got this with hyperterminal and cutecom))

    Actually my serial cable is like this(tested the pins):
    1-->1
    2-->3
    3-->2

    4-->4
    5-->5
    6-->6
    7-->7
    8-->8
    9-->9
    (All pins are connected)
    I'm not sure if it's the right pin layout and if it will work but pin 2 and 3 are cross linked and all other pins are connected to same pin number.

    Please could you tell me if this cable is ok, else i'll rewire it correctly. Is this null modem schematic @ Doom9 good?:

    Thanks!

      dreambox receiving |$x||| on hyperterminal, cannot flash

      Thanks,
      I modified my serial cable according to the schematic you posted, but when I launch dreamUP and switch on dreambox, it still doesn't detect it.

      However in hyperterminal i can still get a signal from dreambox which looks like this: |$x|||

      Don't know what this means but looks weird :S

      Maybe it's the USB to serial adapter which is not working(borrowed from a friend) but still can't be sure about this.

      Please help if you have more information. Thanks.

          Not sure on the USB to serial method,sorry
          Best bet is to buy some 9 pin connectors and a small length of 8 core,Cat 5 etc,shouldn't cost you more than a couple of quid and use the serial port.

              Hey, it's working now!

              Problem was with usb to serial adapter
              Had to flash it directly with a PC containing serial port!

              Thanks for your support friends!

                  I'm having a similar problem and am using USB-Serial with null cable. I'll be able to try it directly later at work, hopefully it works there.

                    Usb to serial adapters can be problematic,
                    this method afaik, does not work to often.
                    My previous PC had a serial port but the drivers didnt work properly for it, so I had to use a friends old PC instead, that worked fine.
                    On my new PC i have no serial port, but do have a serialport header on the mother board to could add the post if i so wish.
