Noob help please! (I have read the tut's & guides!)

Hi folks, been on here a while cos I have a starview, but looking to buy a DM500s & start learning about satellite bit by bit. I'll be using my old Sly dish to begin with, then when I'm confident I know a bit about what I'm doing I'll get myself a motorised 1m dish.

I've read about 30 tutorials all over the net & a few from here & have learnt a lot!

One thing I'm confused about, I know you can only get FTA channels using an old Sly dish, but if I had a motorised dish I could get access to other European channels, right?

Now without c/s, which I'm not ready to get into yet (best walk before I try to run & hurdle, eh?!), can I get access to any channels using 'softcams' such as cccam? Or have I misunderstood that?

If you can, then can someone point me in the right direction to a tutorial or guide, cos everything I've read thus far tells me how to load an image, set up FTP & config files & load cccam or similar, nothing seems to explain how to use cccam etc to actually watch any channels.

Not a lot is left open with just using keys, just a few packages (the major one being DigiTV on 1w). All you need is an up to date softcam.key file on your dreambox and a softcam running. You select the channel and it will open. Best thing to do is google cardsharing and read up on that.
