Dreambox pvr600 connection with router

Hello,
i am completely new to this technology and i am planning to buy Dreambox600. I have seen on you tube how to flash it and coonnect it but please can someone tell me if receiver needs to be permanently connected to the router. Reason i am asking is that TV is downstairs and modem and router upstairs. Thanks

it does not need to be permanently connected but it does give you advantages if you do.. the box will run fine as a standalone...

...but will i be able to watch as many chanels as....would i have to connect every now and then to update receiver...Thanks

You can watch as many FTA channels as you like but if you want to watch an encrypted channel then you need to have it connected to the internet.
