    DM500s boot problem

    Hi,
Just flashed the box from `4.6 No Bomb` to `Darkstar 2`. Did the flash manually (I always do) from temp/ rename root.cramfs etc....but on powering up I get the Darkstar splash screen for 1 second then blank screen for 2. Repeats ad infinitum.
FLashed without error but now won`t boot. I can ftp from DCC but not browser.
Is there a fix I could apply over the LAN, or am I looking at Dreamup with Null Modem ?

    Thanks for any help,
    Trommy.

Bugger!....I have no serial port so I`ll try the USB to Serial adapter route.

        Thanks for the info.

            Will do, joloughlin.
Incidentally, I thought that as I still had a good LAN connection to the box (but no boot), why couldn`t I just flash another image over with FlashWizard.
Nothing to lose, so I flashed and everythihng is back to normal.
So if others have a no-boot situation, but can still talk to the box over the LAN, well worth a go. Saves messing with Dreamup on puters without a serial port.
I will test the USB-Serial method though.

                Hi, Rooney123,
I`m new to this myself, but I`ll try to help.
It sounds like you have a flashing problem. Which image did you originally flash it with, was it a `safe` image?
Can you see the box through LAN connection ?
If you can get a LAN connection you might want to try using DCC to FTP the image into the /temp directory, then manually install from the remote.
Alternatively, use FlashWizard and go directly with the image.
Are you using a known good null modem cable ?

                    rooney123,
These problems usually caused by :-
                    (1) Bad Null cable.........change it for a known good one.
                    (2) Bad image..........download an official image

That gemini image does not contain the `bomb` so you should be OK. Try Jade3 or Darkstar2 from their sites.
If you have a cross-over Lan cable, you could try to connect that way. Did you setup Network on the box before it failed to boot?

                      jo,
Just flashed Jade3 image over using USB>Serial adapter.
I`m under Win7 and all OK.
Installed driver (had to use Vista), connect unpowered box, COM port recognised and connected to box.flash process started, 12 minutes later all OK.
I`m still at a loss as to why flashing over LAN (root.cramfs) is hit and miss.
