Best method for changing sat receivers??

Whats the best method of changing receivers without messing up the dish settings. Can I just disconnect one receiver and replace it with a dm600s and scan where the dish stopped on the previous receiver.other members have instructed me on how but I'd like to get an overall method rather than 2 different methods.I've a maxx 1000 on an 88cm motorised dish and want to run my dm600s to see how it goes.Is it as simple as entering my long.and lat. and let usuals pick up the motor alignment or will I have to lock on with diseq??
I'm crapping meself incase I make a total balls of it and need to get the installer guy back.
    Thanks,
    Freck.
    p.s.
I'm not undermining other members suggestions to me via pm,I'm just being double sure guys.

I"ve just got std technomates on usals, if both are set to the same long/lat I can switch receivers around no probs and you should be able to do the same.
