    hi mate.. I use an old Toshiba laptop running XP to flash my box and its worked with a USB to RS232 converter every time..

    if you are using Vista or above people have had problems with the USB drivers..

    I use one of these plugged directly into one of my USB ports

    If you buy a USB to RS232 converter make sure you get a null modem cable and not a RS232 cable, they look the same but you need the crossover Null variant

      Cheers man, that sounds look a good bet. I'm running Win 7 but can always emulate win xp or dump a live copy on a USB stick or something if I have problems. I've got enough, 'real,' techie friends to sort me out if things get hairy.
