    Sky poor quality

    Hi guys,

I have had a chance to test Sky on my DM500s and was surprised by very poor picture quality. I compared it to other satellite channels like BBC or some polish channels and found the picture quality on the latter was much better then sky. Sky seemed to be blurry and lacking sharpness at all. Is it because the box is SD? Has anyone noticed something similar. I am thinking of getting the dm800hd and subscribing sky but how can I be sure that the hd quality will actually be good when the sd is rubbish?

    thanks in advance

am using nabilo darksat II, but as mentioned before other channels are fine, inluding BBC from the same satellite (astra 28.2)
I had a chance to test other cards - cyfra, polsat and to be honest sky was the poorest quality

its not sky mate it'll be either your image or a crappy share..

I've a Sky HD sub in a Sky HD box.. the quality is amazing

I also used to watch Sky via a share on my D500S, i used Gemini 4.2 and the quality was fine

i have that image on a few boxes and find the picture to be excellent and never had trouble with it , i suggest you might take a look at your scart cable or your tvs picture settings .of course even if the picture was 100% it wouldnt be near as good as hd.
i love it when a dreambox comes together.

sky has the best picture quality of all satellites receivable in UK.

Check a game of football on sky sports HD, go to same game of sky italia HD, Canal digital HD, D+ HD and you will see that Sky picture quality is miles ahead

the only things that make your picture poor on a strong sat like 28 east are a poor tv/scart cable ,a missaligned dish /faulty lnb or your reciever tuner is very poor . but even if your dish is a fraction off 28 east is so strong that if your in the uk or ireland with a 60 cm dish you would have no loss of quality . if your in europe yes and you would need a larger dish for some channels.

Sky News always give 90% + signal all weather. Something wrong with your equipment mate. I get sky news on 1W and 13E picture perfect any time

thanks for your ideas, I have not got sky card to test now but am checking other fta sky channels (sky news, sky travel) and am comparing the quality with bbc1 or bbc news and am still getting the same effect - bbc quality far better than sky,
sky is of a poor sharpness, small text on sky news are visibly more blurry than similar on bbc news
this is within the same satellite, so definately not the box issue, not the setup, what is it then?
does sky send lower quality picture to the sattelite?
