    Advice for the future.

I have a dreambox DM500-s which, at present is working fine, however, they guy who installed it sold it to me for a 1 year subscription and now I am wondering how can it possibly run out after the year is up as there is no card in the box.

    Is this right?

And also, if and when it does expire is it something I may be able to do myself to get the channels back that I currently watch.

Any help appreciated. By the way I am located in Cyprus and watch 'Showtime' which is (I think) arabic.

Is the Dreambox connected to the Internet? If so, what happens to your channels if you disconnect?
It's possible that your supplier has provided you with a subscription to a card sharing service over the Internet. As the name suggests, this type of service means that no physical card is present in the Dreambox.

Yes it's connected to the internet, If I disconnect it I loose all channels but still get FTA.

So, based on all the info on here, do you think it would be something I can do myself if I need to, or would I need to look into card sharing myself (I can always google it)
I am familiar with setting up computers and working with this type of thing but have never messed with dreamboxes.

      Thanks for any advice.

I'm afraid that card sharing discussions are not allowed on this forum and so Google is your friend.

One thing I feel I should mention though is that your system seems to be connected to a commercial card sharing service and there is a risk with these systems because they are inherently illegal. If the police close them down, you'll lose your money but in addition, the police may also come knocking on your door because they'll have access to the list of subscribers.

Thanks, however, I did say that I would 'google' about card sharing as I have read the rules and I am aware that this type of discussion is not allowed.

Anyway, can anybody tell me if it is something I could do myself
          Thanks in advance

if you google cardsharing and take some of the offshoot sites it brings up it will lead you to info on how its done, so yes, with some reading. no other info can be gone into here at dk

You cannot do anything without a proper card somewhere in the mix.

If you don't want to use a commercial card sharing system but you want to set up a private card sharing system consisting of you, a bunch of mates and one card, then yes it is possible.
