DM500s going for ?60. Are they real?

Its real. This is the average price for one.

Do you mean real as in original. as they are all Chinese clones.. you can get for ?54 each from ukdreamshop so slightly better than ?60

assuming its a clone, what difference does it make to the set up?

as far as i was aware, the things i needed for setup were:

1. dreamup

2. flash wizard pro, with image

3. dreambox control centre

does any of this differ now that its a clone?

and what image is recommended for the dm500s clone?

i have clones and thares lots of images safe for them. plijade is my favourite! you will use just the same progs to load and install your tools and images so no it dont differ it just the same

as wilf says above, pli jade 3 image is best for dm500..

ALL new dreambox bought now will be clones. Nothing wrong in them, actually I think they are better than the old orginals of 2 years ago.

Heres the cheapest I use: Buy DreamBox 500S,DM500S,DreamBox DM 500S,Dream Box 500S,Dreambox Satellite

Yeah, for a first timer I would say stick with the UK shops.

That way if you have any problems with the box you won't just chuck it on ebay and give up.

As a recommendation though, personally I would buy a DM600S.
All round a better unit and have more memory, HDD option for more images and add-ons. I've seen a couple go through on ebay for less than ?80 including p&p (They wre both original too!!).
