Just my opinion ... but i do not see the point of buying a clone dm500s when you can get the tm500 / 600 for a few ? more.

Better tuners and picture / sound. The UR img is stable and does every thing you want.

Before the dm fan boys jump in ... i also have a dm500s,
    just my 2 pennies worth.
As for guides every thing you want is right here, just do a bit of reading and off you go.

    regards @manx

I have had dm500/600 and now a dm800. I found the dm500 a bit annoying as it just lacked the little extra of the dm600. I would be inclined to go for a clone dm600 as the starting unit as it has hdd for a recording and has the extra RAM for all those plugins you want to install.

          I'd second that.
I recently upgraded from a Dm500 to a 600 and its a far superior box.
The 500 was locking up all the time due to lack of memory ,it was doing my head in having to reboot it every so often.
The 600 runs smoothly ,has loads of space for plugins and loads of memory for running a 7 day epg and the pvr is great.

If your not buying a clone ! buy the Dreambox 500 HD, its cheaper than the 800 more powerful with a 400mhz processor, If it has as much support as the current 500-SD it will last you for the next 5-8 years.

i started with the 500, great for the beginners, learnt a lot about images, scanning for other sattalites etc etc.
for the price of what you can pick them up for nowadays,
you can always upgrade and use it as a second box later on, as i have. ( use my d.box as third, its still working)
as for help with setting up etc, theres everything you need on this forum, peeps on here are always helpful
