Mod the box?

Ok so how about this for a question then

Can you mod the DM500S adding extra ports to it (USB, IDE etc), now I know there is the DM600 7020 or 800 etc but as the 500 is so cheap now I thought it might be fun to play around adding extra bits to it.

Or am I being just a tab optimistic

any thing is possible
but the problem i would think is,will a dm500 cope with all this extra stuff added
and crash the box
saying that i just added a cf card to my dm600 for multiboot different images but run into problems
