500s setup
just got a DB500s for 80quid (prob a clone) Ive seen some guides for setting up a 500c are they the same for the satalite version Im a complete novice to this Thanks in advance for any help

Depends what you want to get on it m8, nothing is easy like a cable version you need to search and read and you can't talk about c/s here either..!

Flashing the dreambox is the same for sat and cable but the rest is completely different. You may want to start by reading this sticky if you have not done so already;

if your used to flashing a dm500c you will be ok ,but if not you will need to download dream up (this puts the image in to the dm500s) and you will of course need an image (this is the tv software) as your box is a clone it will need a clone safe image i would suggest downloading an image like nabilo darkstar 2 ,you can download both an image and dream up from the links in my signature area. you will need atleast a null modem cable (this connects the dm500s to your computer) there is a 9 pin connection at the rear of the dm500s (the null modem cable connects to that) your computer will need to have the same connection. if it does not you will need to also get a usb to seriaal adaptor ,this connects to the null modem cable allowing you to use a usb socket on your computer, the adaptor will need a driver (software) which you install on your computer ,it will either come on a disk with your cable or you will need to download it. if your computer runs on windows vista you may encounter severe problems trying to flash your box due to compatability issues ,if your computer runs on windows xp you should be fine.
