cannot connect to dm500s box to FTP it

Hi guys. this seems to be a common problem . I cannot connect to the dreambox. I've tried everything i think ?
I'm using a crossover rj45 cable / laptop and DCC.
tried with DHCP ticked - no good. unticked DHCP and entered ip's manually. This might be a clue- the laptop icon at the toolbar for the network shows limited or no connectivity. however, i can ping the dreambox under command prompt, but i cannot telnet the box. - i,ve tried a new cable, cable is ok. tried connecting box straight to home hub, and accessing wirelessly through hub, still no good. - i've manually set the NIC IP addresses in the laptop rather that auto asign, still no good.
also if i search for the box in DCC program, the box isnt found. image loaded on box is darkstar and cccam the box is ok for FTA channels. any ideas would be gratefully appreciated, as i have exhausted all ideas at present- cheers

Make sure your firewall is trned off

thanks, but it appears the firewall is OFF under the general setting tab of windows firewall ?
