Making the jump to Dreambox 500s

I previously was a Eurovox aficionado but the Nagra3 upgrade has a big difference to my (non) viewing experience. I?ve always had a SKY minidish attached to the side of my home but it lay unused and unconnected. Over the weekend, I borrowed a neighbours SKY box and their matched card and tested out the minidish. The minidish is working fine ? good! I realise that I?m wholly focussed on Astra 28.2?E with this arrangement.

Now it?s time to start experimenting with a basic level entry Dreambox as a ?play-thing? and I?m interested in the whole CS experience. I?m not worried about getting a clone, have undertaken a lot for research around various Bulletin Boards re: set-up ? thanks to many of our contributors - so I?ve decided to purchase a Dreambox 500s.

The best priced clone deal I have come across for a ?Dream DM-Box DM500 V8 DVB-S Standalone Linux Digital Satellite Receiver with LAN Port? is at ?dealextreme? which is $75.69 (US) so that?s around ?50 (UK) including free postage. I realise it will likely take a month or so to get my hands on it. Has anyone used ?dealextreme?? Will it ship with a UK power cable? Many other retailers don't have stock but I'm open to suggestions.

When I get the Dreambox up-and-running with the minidish I will then graduate to a motorised dish arrangement so that I?m not just constrained to FTA services on Astra 28.2?E. Just want to take a step-by-step approach rather than going big-bang.

    Regards, BB.

Just be careful if your buying a box from outside of Europe as you may get hit with a customs import tax if they don't state its a gift ( a friend of mine bought a box from the states and got hit with a ?30 letter from customs about 10 days later ).

I myself have just made the jump to sat side with a dm500s and a motor setup, took me a good few days to get my head around setting up the motor correctly (trial and error) and different images for the box ( pli jade seems to be the best for me ).

The CS side of things was probably the easiest thing to set up ..

If you get stuck give me a shout if you need any help ..

Many thanks for your advice and offer of help. Hopefully the static arrangement will go to plan and then it'll be onto the motorised project!

Having looked around I finally went for a 500s from "satandcable.com" based in Liverpool. It works out about ?10 more than from overseas but hopefully it'll arrive a bit sooner!

      Regards, BB
