    Keep Losing All Channels!

OK guys, I have a serious issue that I just can't get to the bottom of. Ok here goes....

A few days ago my wireless router (DLink DI-624) died. I replaced it with the Belkin Wireless G Router which is the only change I've made in some time. I had been enjoying my subbed channels on my DM500s (on 28.2e) perfectly fine until maybe the day after I installed my new router. My problem is this : If I'm watching an FTA (BBC, ITV etc) I'm fine. If I switch to Movies or Sports I might get 5 minutes of watching, the station freezes and, while the box will respond to the remote (i.e I can change channels) I get nothing at all, no FTA, nothing! For example I left my box on BBC all night and this morning it was still working, but within 5 minutes of putting on Movies it froze. A reboot of the box is the only way to 'resolve' the issue, but it will freeze randomly again.

I can't see how this could be a router problem either. My 2 computers work fine wirelessley also. I even tried changing the routers internal IP address from 192.168.2.x to 192.168.0.x (the same as my old one) and made sure the network settings in the dreambox were correct but I have the same issue. I changed the image from PLI to Nabilosat with the same result. I changed the power supply and even changed the Scart to a regular Scart instead of Scart to Component cable but I'm still no closer to resolving this. Also, I can't see how it could be a coax/dish/lnb issue as the FTA works fine until I change to a subbed channel. I even tried a different line and I get the same result.

    Help Please!!

I didn't mate. I don't think I port forwarded on the old router either though. I'm just getting the channels from someone and not sharing back, but not from one of those awful servers advertised on the net. It also seems that some channels Subbed but that are not movies and sports (i.e kids) seem ok and don't freeze everything up. Bizarre I know!!

Thanks for the help mate. I've disabled the firewall and left the box on sports. I'll give it a few minutes to see how it goes. Out of interest, what ports should I be forwarding for a 500s?

Tbh, as youre not acting as a server, you dont need to do it, but hey, every little helps right?

Well I tried disabling the firewall, but no joy. I'll have a go at port forwarding but failing that I really don't know whats happening. Might be the 500s, might be the router, I really can't tell.

                  Also might be the server..
                  might need a reflash
                  maybe try a different CCcam?

Both great ideas lads, I might try changing the CCCam version if that can be done in PliJade Maxvar and removing the security from the router, although isn't the security just for the 'wireless' part?. It's still baffling me how this only seems to be happening on Movies and Sports.

                        hi

                        try this
on the dreambox in communications set up tick the dhcp
and save then reboot the dreambox should have a new ip address and the default gateway should be the same as the routers ip address
if it works untick dhcp on dreambox and save
this worked for me when I changed routers

                        hope this may help

bob, I may have already tried that but I'll give it another go.

I forgot to mention something very important. When it freezes on movies or sports and I check satfind, my SNR is in the mid 60's and I no longer have a lock or sync, and can no longer get any channels including FTA. This probably points to a tuner issue, although I can't see how the problem never happens when I'm only watching FTA channels.

                            try an inline amp
In-Line Signal Amplifier Sky Satellite Booster + 2F's on eBay (end time 08-Feb-11 09:33:06 GMT).
Also, is your router/dect near to your box?
Maybe nothing, but I know for a fact that some official sky boxes/channels can be affected by router/dect phone proximity.
                            Granted this

Thanks for the advice Shady. It seems from what I can gather that the problem only arises on Horizontal polarisation channels, and even then only some of those cause the box to drop snr and require a reboot. I read somewhere that this could be due to a faulty psu, and although I did try a spare there could've been a problem with that too.

My router and modem are within inches of the Deambox really and I only have a short network cable between them. I'm going to try a known good psu and see if it helps, and if not I'll order myself the inline amp you suggested. It's strange though that those channels were working fine for the last two months and suddenly stopped. Very confusing.
