    Looking For Advice

Hey all, Am thinking about getting into satellite tv and see what it can do. Was goin to get a dreambox 500 and a motorised sat dish to start off and see what i can do with this. I live in ireland, does that dictate what size dish i shouldd get. Saw a 80 cm motorized dish on the internet for ?99.DiSEqC 1.2/1.3 Usals Satellite 120 H-H Motor with GoTo X - 0 have not got a clue what that means but does that sound an alright price. Should i get a 1m dish or would the 80cm be sufficient.
Any Advice would be greatly appreciated

It depends on what sat you wish to view & do you really need motor ?
You could also investigate use of DiSEqC switch (4x1 around ?4) with multiple sat dishes, allowing instant switching of your primary viewing satellites instead of waiting for motor to swing around.
You could pick up 2nd hand dishes quite cheaply via local newspapers & Ebay.
If your budget allows & fitting only a single dish is only option then the larger dish option of 1m would be ideal choice.
80cm dish be fine for strong sats eg,19e,13e,28e but if you after other sat like 16e,39e,4.8e,1w then larger dish does allow you the privilage for having stable signal even in poor weather like rain.
So you get the clone DM 500 about under ?50,DiSEqC switch ?4,cheap dishes (?1 to ?15) to start you off then upgrade to motor around (?45).
The DM 500 clone can be temperamental with motor over long cable runs.

thanx for the advice painterman. the cable run is only about 20 mts.yeah my budget allows a 1m dish. Would not fancy many dish's on the back of the house. Think i will wait for the dish to swing around. What image would you recommend i flash the dreambox with. i used to use dk image on cable.Anythin else do you think i should concider or should i know about before i purchase. i have been reading thru the threads just to see what its all about...

You seem to have all you need to enter sat world viewing,DM 500,1m dish + motor ,lnb & cable.
Image to use is how comfortable you are with it on & stability,I use EDG Nemesis 4.4 (tested working with motor & DiSEqC switch) rock solid & ease of use.
You can experiment other good images like PLi,Nabilosat,Evolution 2.6, end result you after wll be down to your preferences.
The DM 500 is good cheap machine to start off in learning curve hope I have helped .
