Is my tuner the correct one for uk use?

Hi all, I thought I give my dream box 800hd pvr sat receiver another try after 2 months on the shelf. I was never able to get a picture on any channel even though I had a strong signal and I know I was on the right sat as I tried my old receiver and got a good picture, I set the this box up text book style but still no joy. Only just thought may be its the tuner in the box even though it?s a new box, it was purchase from Japan. I notice some of the tuners for sale on eBay end with numbers: 401A but my numbers on my tuner are: ALPS BSBE2-801A. Could this be my problem for no picture?

      DM800 - bad ALPS 801A tuner?

Hi all, I have similar problem with my Chinese DM800. Tuner is 801A.
On the first day I was able to see HD channels. Next day receiver was not able to tune to SkyItalia HD channels (SNR 0%). Other HD cnannels on HB6 worked OK.
After two days I was not able to tune to any SkyItalia channel.

I've also noticed that SNR on DM800 is lower than on my old DM500 by 10-15%.

Is it possible that not all ALPS tuners are of the same quality? If so, how to recognize or where to buy good ones?

      Cheers

I dont want to be called a scare monger but i think ive read somewhere that skyitalia are trying out anti cardshare now, have you lost all skyitalia channels or just HD, could be that this maybe the reason if you have lost all as you can still receive channels on HB6.

I just put back my DM500 and I can watch regular SkyItalia channels, although with some short interruptions. Signal is about SNR 85%. With DM800 signal is SNR 0% on all SkyItalia channels.

I got my DM800 just few days ago so I guess it's the latest model SIM 2.01, BL82, Gemini 5.1 I think. I have re-flashed it with Blackhole image but problems still persist.

Am i right in thinking that you can receive other channels (on another sat) using the dm800? if so could it be that your cam has changed or not selected, have you rescanned the correct sat, is your system motorised ie lookin at correct sat?

Yes, I can receive other channels from the same sat, although with the signal in the range from 55-70%. on DM500 signal is in range 80-90% on the same channels. I've re-flashed, re-scanned, re-what not...sigh, this is getting frustrating...
              I'm in Kuwait, 2 x dish 120cm, 3 LNB (Badr/Nilesat-dish1 + HB6-dish2) into disec switch, approx 15m coax from switch to the dm800.

Firstly welcome to the forum but you have jumped straight into some one elses thread and this has nothing to do with the thread.
Its far better starting your own thread as the original thread has now been side tracked and this isnt fair on the current forum member.

                Andy.

                  Hello Andy,

My apologies for steeling the thread. I was googling trying to find info/solution to my problem and I was taken directly to the particular thread. I should have started my own thread. My bad!

Any chance moderator can move intruding posts to a new thread?

                  Cheers

Apology accepted mate, biggest problem on most sites is people especially noobs dont read the rules and blatantly post over someones thread and nothing is gained by this.

                    Andy.

Im pretty certain alot of the Sky Italia Movie frequencies have moved recently so i would try a new set of bouquets.
Cateyes does a good set of bouquets for multi sats you could try them but you will need a certain amount of posts to start downloading.
Take it you know how to add bouquets with Dreambox Edit?
These are for Enigma 2 like Dreambox 800hd.
                      Also have you downloaded ccam??

Thanks for the instructions Andy. What really puzzles me is why in the world my old DM500 has no problems receiving SkyItalia channels (without re-scanning) and DM800 is giving me such a headache. And why DM800 shows 10-15% lower signal strength compared to DM500?

I noticed there is a sequence of numbers just below tuner's model number usually ending with letter "G". Could it be that that number distinguishes real/genuine tuner from a clone/bad quality one?

I know how to use Dreambox Edit and my cccam clines should be OK. I can still watch BBC HD, Canal +HD, Cinemax HD etc...

                        Cheers
