    what a big change!

hi all. glad to be here after struggling with the starview combo for a few months! after some initial problems with the beta of the dream elite image i've finally got everything up and running using the openpli image. and what can i say!!! what an image!!!

just ordered a nice usb laptop cooler for the 800hd as i've installed an internal drive and read somewhere that this is a no no. any one had problems with overheating (i've got new clone with the M tuner, bl32 etc)?

just a thought.. would it be worth labeling the images in the download section as being for clones or not? i've noticed other forums have sticky threads dedicated to clone and non-clone compatible images.

Nothing beats a Linux box mate.

A bit more work but well worth it.

having a cooler is a must your box will run smoother with it especially with int hard drive, good choice you wont go wrong.

laptop drives run fairly cool anyway and most images are set to spin the disk down after 10 minutes if inactivity, so no issues with overheating when installing an internal hard disk.

The internal fan on DM800HD clones (if you have one ferarri SIM based clones dont have a fan) is pretty poor and devleops noisy fan bearings after a while.

Even when I removed the fan on an older non pro Tuner L3 clone, I still didnt get any overheating issues. Obviously put box in standby when not in use. I still use a USB cooling stand though though to be on the safe side.

I accidently damaged my fan in my 800HD Pro so i used a laptop cooler i had kicking about and kept planning on getting a replacement internal fan. The laptop cooler packed in on me, still not got a replacement internal fan and my receiver works great. No overheating issues, it sometimes gets a bit warm when im watching a good bit of HD channels but its not overheating.

I do put it on standby at night but have forgot at times and still no issues with it runs smooth never crashes. Really makes me think do I even need to get a replacement fan.

Also if the TV is off during the day I just turn it to a SD channel.

Every processor needs to be cooled in order to function in a proper manner not having a fan or cooler may not do short term damage but rest assured it will get damaged if not affect the speed of operation, for the sake of ?5.00 on ebay is it worth the risk

a Better mod is a larger internal fan attached to the lid of the reciever to extract hot air from the case.

I might have a go at the scart mod with laptop cooler when I get a chance so the laptop cooler gets switched off in standby.

I will replace mine with a internal fan i dont like the look of my receiver sitting on top of a laptop cooler. Talk about fussy i suppose .
