    DM800HD - In deep water

    Hi All,

A bit of background to my problem, before I get ripped to shreds!

I'm not particularly stupid with most stuff, as I don't get involved with anything technical unless I reckon I can figure it out but I'm in a situation now where I'm forced to look into the what seems to be incredibly complicated world of sat boxes.

I'm a registered electrician, went to school, uni, did my homework etc but with regards to images, bootloaders etc I don't quite understand how they work.

Anyway, last year I bought a DM800HD from a mates mate.... I thought about buying one myself and getting it to work but decided to get one set up already as it looked complicated. It worked fine and could watch 'certain' channels. He said if it ever stopped working I could send him a drink and he would sort it. (You know, how it has been in the past). 9 months on, all channels are down, and he wants ?150 to sort it.

Now I want to have a go at getting it working myself...

So, bearing in mind I didn't know even where to start, I started looking at Clines, thinking I could change some settings to make it work. Tried to connect to the box with DCC but got stuck, U:root P:dreambox don't work, neither does U:root, P:blank.

I think I'm supposed to try Tuxbox, to reset the password on the box. When I go to the addon screens etc, the box can't connect to the internet. It used to be able to. I checked router and its connected (wired). I think it's something to do with my box being Enigma E2 Blackhole or something.

I'm thinking I need to flash a new image (I don't even know what that is changing). I tried to use flashwizard pro, the idea being to back up what I have so I don't mess anything up. But the same problem, no password.

Now I'm thinking RS232 cable which I haven't got and will buy.

I've tried looking at newbie guides etc but even these seem complicated as I don't understand what bits do what.

Can anyone help. Even if I have to pay someone who lives nearby it would be much appreciated!

    Cheers

hi there, you should use the flash method via the browser, its in the sticky section, however before you do this find out what bootloader you have, what sim type you have, and if your box is a clone most likely to be anyhow.

also the talk about clines is not allowed on these forums so that will have to be sorted in google im afraid

Yeah mate you should start by deleting your mates mate number from your phone..

Next you should reflash your box if you cant get into it with the username/password. Read up on how to flash via the web interface as the last poster mentioned. You need to know if your box is a clone or not to begin with (how much did you pay for it?) and how old it is, so you can flash the right image to the box, if you flash the wrong image then you will be in a bit more trouble and it will be harder to get out of your problematic scenario!

Lets get this stage out of the way first, then we will take it from there!

don't buy an rs232 cable, what you need is a null modem cable, they look the same but the rs232 won't work.

        good luck with everything

the odds are his changed the password so u would have to install a new image ,, even after u have done that u will still have to spend money , u wont get one for free this early in the game see if u can get his price down ?10 a month is more like it

Hi are all the channels down including FTA ? As for DCC have you got the right IP for the box check under network settings to see if its set for dhcp or it has a fixed ip, as mentioned before i think the box has been locked down and your 'Gift' has expired. If so re-image the box making sure that you have the correct one ie for a clone if it is, as mentioned in other posts as for the 'Gift' Google is a good start.
                Regards
                Mark

Hi, sorry about the late follow up, we've just had an addition to our family, a healthy baby girl!

Firstly thanks very much for your posts.

For the bootloader, sim type and whether it's a clone.... I don't even know where to look!

On bootup I see on the display:
An number which flashes up really quickly: #7520091005,
                  booltogo.elf,
                  dhcp vmlinux.gz
                  then

                  Dream Multimedia

On the tv screen it says Dream Elite, enigma 2 Blackhole

                  I'm almost certain it's a clone.

Is that enough info to determine which image to use? and if so, where would I get this image?

                  Many thanks

When you first power the box on check the little led screen this will tell you if its sim1 sim2 or ferrari.
Thats the most important thing that bricks boxes if you choose an image with wrong sim.
Ive a good link i can send you for flashing the image.
A 5 year old could follow it and congrats on the baby.
                    You have mail.
                    Andy.

                      Hi,

                      Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm staring closely at the LED screen when I power up but only see:

                      Dream Multimedia, booting..
                      #75 20091005,
                      booltogo.elf,
                      dhcp vmlinux.gz

I can't see anything like sim1, sim2 or Ferrari. Am I looking in the right place? What I'm doing is plugging in the power adapter, then looking at the LED screen on the actual Dreambox.

                      Thanks

I can film it booting and give the Youtube link if necessary..

                        Hi,

I've connected to the unit via my browser and have this info:

Information Product Name DM800 Booloader version Dreambox Second Stage Loader BUILD #75, built 20091005 Flash Size 64 MB Production Date (YYYY/MM/DD) 2010/05/11 mID 13 Serial Number 36588 MAC Address 00:09:34:28:66:bf Printed Serial Number A51113000036588

It doesn't mean much to me unfortunately..

Sometimes will have a sticker underneath if its sim1 or not?

                            Try flashing by web side.

If it has a sticker underneath of the box and says Sim 2 then flash this image on the box via web browser method.
Pretty sure bootloader 75 onwards is Sim 2.
