    Shutting off after a while

Hi, got a bit of a problem with a DM800. It's a clone, after a few hours it will shut down, just switch off like the plug has been pulled. When I try to restart it will run for 10-20 minutes then do the same thing again. Sounds to me to be heat related, any ideas?

    Thanks

I had this issue with my first 800hd clone it was a ferarri sim and they do not have a internal fan. As it was just new I just sent it back.

What sim is in your receiver mate?

Sounds like a issue with overheating or the PSU.

It's sim 2.01. There's no hard drive inside, it's actually my neighbours box, he was saying it kept switching off. I flashed a new image and he said it ran fine for a week or two and it has started rebooting again. I have it on an hd channel now testing to see how long it will last. He said he switched it on at 6pm last night, it went off at 10pm and wouldn't last any longer than 20 mins after that.

EDIT: It has an internal fan and I can hear it spinning if I put my ear to top of box.

Think it could be the PSU mate, do you have another PSU you could try with it?

At the minute I'm using a 600 PSU with it as he didn't bring over his PSU.

Well i would say that possibly rules out the PSU.

I'd open it up mate and just check the cabling make sure all is plugged in securely and nothing loose.

It hasn't shut off here yet. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. I've been talking to him on the phone and he thinks he might have his brother 500 PSU and his brother is using his 800 PSU on his 500. Would that make any difference?

It's warm at the minute but not too hot to the touch, can't find anywhere for PSU temp. Can only find HDD temp but there's no HDD in it.

no cant really see that making much of a difference mate but he could always give it a try by switching them around.

If you are saying it has not turned off at yours using your psu then it sounds like it is his psu that could be the problem.

It's been going just over an hour and a half with no problems so far. Fingers crossed.
