    DM800 Unable to flash

Hi all I have done a lot of reading and some testing and am still unable to flash box DM800 Sim 2.01 Bootloader 76A.

If I connect to dreamup with null modem and switch the box on it just continues to boot as normal to a tv channel, ITV 1 London but freezes with no response to remote control, I have tried all versions of dreamup including 800 repair and enforcer with no joy. Used several tried and tested cables direct to serial port on pc com 1. The red light on front of box is continually flashing.

I cannot connect via network as the box is stuck at DHCP and will not accept an IP from router, the network adapter lights up on the box initially and then goes out and stays off as if it cannot communicate.

If I power up box and press on/off button it will show "stop" on screen with dhcp above but will not do anything else. I have tried to Hot swap using another dm 800 but when I swap the serial cable so as to flash the box it then boots up to tv channel and does not flash.

All advice is welcome but I'm beginning to think it is cooked.

try and connect using dcc do a search to see wot ip it is . If it connects then at least u r communicating with box. Then try power on with powe button held until stop and use that Ip addy in browser to see if u can access the box. If no would try a few either side of DCC IP addy. Stab in the dark but nowt to lose.

When it displays "stop " with dhcp address just type the dhcp address into Firefox on PC and should connect with the web interface

Thanks guys will try dcc later and see if i get anything. Southpaw, it does not give ip 192.168.***.*** it just shows the letters "DHCP" on screen but won't pick up ip from router, thanks

DCC is not picking up ip address, thanks for the suggestion.

check the router and see if the box is connected to the router.

if it is connected, you can get the addresss from there. also give it a static address from there for future.

hey Scozzy - similar advice to alom5. but - try going to your router and setting the dhcp scope to about 5 addresses.
then, when you boot your dm you can try pinging those 5 addresses. helps to narrow it down. if you get a response, then you know where to browse to to load your image.
though it sounds like you arent picking up an address. Do other devices on your network (router) get given addresses ok?
lets make sure the router/dhcp server is working correctly before going any further.
on a connected pc type ipconfig/all (in a dos box)
look for the ip address of your pc, check if dhcp is enabled, if yes, type ipconfig/renew do you get the same/any address (on the correct lan i.e. not 169.xxx.xxx.xxx). If so you can assume dhcp is ok.
I'm also guessing from your post that the box goes to TV and freezes BEFORE you can do anything?

Hi bends I have connected different pc's and laptops to router and they always connect ok with DHCP. you are correct in that the box goes to tv and then freezes before I can do anything. If i connect serial cable and start hyperterminal then plug the power into dreambox it logs about 20 characters of garbled crap. I assume from this the serial port is working however the bootloader from dreamup does not seem to stir the box into flash mode.

with hyperterm try setting the speed to 115200, then you should be able to read the garbled crap.
did you try limiting the dhcp range?
