Hi just got dm800hd pvr had 4 days i have just come to sat from cable ( newbee )will you hurt box if you switch off at mains reason is got manual and it tells you to press power on remote for 5 sec and it will switch off it does not can any one advise please thanks mial

Hi, if your worried about the heat, its ok just put it on standby, press power button on remote, then it will cool down wont use power, better then turning it off and rebooting takes ages, from standby within second its on, thats what i do, aint even got a fan in mine been fine for over a year now even though it gets hot

Ive shut mine down everytime its not on and have done for the last year.
Just make sure you shut it down properly and you will be fine.

if you want to power off
Press MENU > STANDBY/RESTART > SHUTDOWN

Or if you want too change the behavior of power button press
Menu > setup > system > customise >
some options here for changing the behaviour of the power button (line 13 +14 i think)

Yes agreed, its a linux operating system so its possible to damage things just by pulling the plug. The main problem is if the OS is writing some data as the power goes off then the write can either be incomlete (so bad data next time you start up) or, far worse, data can get written to somewhere it shouldn't.

To some extent the flash filing system hardens the device to these kinds of problem but nothing is perfect and things do occasionally sneak through so doing a proper shutdown is always the better option.
