considering a dm800se, got lots of questions....

i only been in the sat game for about a month and already thinking of upgrading

i've got a openmedia 500cs, which is basically a dm500s,
the sound on it is poor, the box has served me well, think its time to get some hd and better sound quality

im looking at getting the dreambox 800se, i read that it has 7day epg, good images and oled picons!

i just got a couple of questions,
i keep hearing the phrase bootloader, excuse my ignorance but whats a bootloader?
i also hear about sim2.10 and ferrari sim,
i understand that sim2.10 is better because of images and support etc,
but what is this sim thing exactly?

whats the sound quality like on the dm800se? better then dm500s?

whats general picture quality like on sd and hd?

i've briefly read that you can get 7day epg,
is that just sly uk? or does that include european channels?

will any 2.5" hard drive do with these boxes?

whats the average price to buy it from china?
which company from china should i buy from?
how do you order from china?
from what i've read, its a matter of emailing for a quote,
get reply with paypal address, making payment and 4-5 days late its a matter of delivery, am i right in thinking this?
never ordered a stb from china, hence why i want to ask.

sim and ferrari - just the teams that have patched the images for the clone boxes

sound and pcture - both superb.

epg available for euro channels as well. i only use the 3 day epg as thts sufficient for me.

any 2.5" hdd will fit into the inbuilt cradle

price is around ?155.

where? people been using yaoxin...i got mine from dhgate.

i chose dhl as it was quicker. i found this was the best price at the time when i got my box $250.

if someone has it cheaper, why not go for that as long as they have good feedback.

i got a 60gb hdd. enough for any recording i may need. mostly used for permanent timeshift, epg and anything else i need. it's sufficient for my needs. and nooooooooo....didn't get it from china. i just took it out my laptop.

permanent timeshift allows you to rewind while watching..just like the sly + features.

i'm using the newnigma 2 ssl84 by sat4fun available in downloads section.

can you pause live tv too? or just rewind?

Some images don't include the bootloader, but generally most pre patched images do. If the image name contains details of the SSL then it will be patched and ready to go.

eg. Witchys_Image_SSL84.nfi would have the 84th second stage loader and would be fine to flash directly. If not then you would need to download the SSL84 separately and flash it to the box immediately after flashing the image - before rebooting, otherwise you'd get a CA ERROR.
