Freezing is mainly down to server issues. If you've got a 3m dish and a crap server it will still freeze.

The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12
Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'. -

It depends a lot on whereabouts in the country you are. Typically the further north you go the weaker the sat. signal (it's still perfectly adequate most of the time, but read on ...)
The only time that S_y breaks up is when there's heavy rain, as water absorbs the microwave signal from the satellite. So under those circumstances a larger dish will be affected less often than a smaller one (but is also more dependent on being pointed exactly at the satellite). Note: these break-ups will affect ALL channels, even the free ones. So if it's only the paid-for ones that break up, it's not the size of the dish that's causing it.
Small dishes are also less tolerant of low quality cable and connectors (i.e. cheap stuff) as the shielding from external noise/interference is not so good.
Having said that, in this context a "larger" dish would mean a zone 2 dish for most of the country (where most people would have an "ordinary" sized zone 1). If you're in Scotland/Cornwall "larger" might mean a 78cm job, but that's about as large as anyone would ever need to go just for S_y in GB. We're not talking about nailing Jodrell Bank to the side of your house.Last edited by dibble; 22 November, 2011, 12:02.Mama's got a Dreambox ...

Thx guys f the info
Mines only just been installed and it breaking up a lot, it's only a small sky dish, I did have a huge one 85cm but the mrs said it's too ugly to put up,it is old rusty and snide looking like.
But yes I'm breaking up on most channels, could it be the server or do ye think opt for a bigger dish, ye no I've just bought this box forked out money to someone I don't even trally know s friend of a friend of a friend ov a ? to install it and get me up and running, a bit of a cowboy job really I might just invest in a bigger dish anyways just to see how it goes, cos the subs allready been done, so I can only giv it a go.Comment
