    DM800 SNR and ECM issues

My DM800 has a bit of glitching on a few channels. My SNR fluctuates from 50 to 85 and my ECM from 0.086 to 0.800 depending on on channel- the high end of the values only effects a few of the channels.

My question is, would a inline AMP improve the signal quality or due to the high ECM would I need to upgrade the dish to get a better picture?

I have searched the forums but I can't seem to find a suitable thread to answer my question. Any advice would be appreciated. Should also mention that my location is NW England and I am running Dream Elite Blackhole image.

High snr will help but isnt always the answer.
What are the fta channels like,BBC1 etc?
If those are fine its a server problem or internet related problem or quite possibly your connections but you havent stated if its a static dish or motorised.

Sorry should of stated, I have a static dish (bog standard sky dish) and the FTA channels are all ok in general. The main problem is with HD channels.

My last box was a DM500S and I had no issues with the signal, I would go as far as to say that I only had 1 or 2 glitches over the three months I used the box ( I watch a lot of TV)

Depends on what tuner it is for the inline amp.
If its a new box with the M rev 801A tuner an inline amp wont make that much difference.
I wouldnt think its the box but maybe trying a different image might help so it points to either the server or dish related.
Try rebooting your router first, high ecms point to server or internet problems.
Ive friends who have older Dreambox 800s on a Sky dish and everything is fine so i would check your f connections.
If possible try the box out on another dish.
These are all things you need to do to rule out the other stuff.

Its a new box with the latest tuner. Think I will take my router off the network and connected straight to the modem. If that's shows no improvement, I will try the box on someone elses dish.

          Thanks for your advice.

Like i said if the likes of BBC1 are ok 99% of the time its you're server.
All you can do is check your cables and ethernet lead but on a new box you should be getting 85 to high 90s snr on most of the hd channels i do on mine and its an older box.

Its looking like a server issue. No change I. The SNR when I connected straight to the modem. The only confusing thing is that my DM500 was on the same server with no issues.

Will still connected to my mates dish just in case my dish is the cause of the problem.

Again thanks for all your advice.

Well its not my server as I have just switched to another server and the same fault presented itself. Think I will invest in a inline camp and a fan to go under the DM800. They are both cheap items so its worth a go.

If this fails, could it be my sky dish? Guess I will need to connected it
to my matea dish to find this out.

Well the amp made no difference and the fan is cooling the box but I guess it is to early to tell if this will solve the issue.

Could the issue be with the tuner or the dish?

For the sake of a few quid invest in a new lnb or possibly get someone out to test the set up.

Pity you dont have another box to compare it to.

The Dm500 work fine, just glitching on the HD channels on the DM800. Forgot about testing the set up else where, will try that later. What LNB would you recommend?

ECM is totally different to SNR/AGC/BER...

If you are connected to a server and you are receiving high ECM times then it will be 99% a server/internet issue.

0.800 is pretty high and would cause problems.

I've seen SD channels clear no problem but the HD versions glitching real bad. It's more likely an overloaded card on the server.

The ECM on the whole is ok (well I think it is ok) I average around 0.200 but in extreme situations it can spike to 0.800

I have switched several but I get the same problems.

Will take the box to my brother in laws house later and hook it up to his dish and see if the fault is with my dish.

                          Thanks for all the advice.

if you goto menu-setup-service searching-satfinder....you can see the strength of the snr there....so you will know if it is a signal problem or not. even at 50%snr...you should still get decent quality HD.

the ecm is pretty much how long it takes for your box to retrieve the keys from the card that it is connecting to. high ecm = server or internet probs...is anyone downloading any big files/streaming movies.....this will have an effect if your internetspeeds aint that good anyway...

.800 shouldn't really affect it that much unless it skips even higher.....my guess is the server you are using dosen't physically have the card in it or it has more users than the card can handle. - find a better server....
