Is there and way to save a channel in my 800 so when I switch it on it starts up on that channel.

yes mate when you are in your channel list, scroll to the channel you want to set as startup, don't open it just press menu, there is a option there.

on a similar note is there any way to stop it opening on the channel i watched last night? the adult channel is too addictive

change the channel to another channel then just do a restart from the box mate
