    Newbie help - please

    Hi to all
I have just ordered a clone DM800 HD and I am eagerly reading up on it to try tolearn a little bit about it, I have never used one before.
I am a little confused regarding images and bootloaders etc. If I load a patched image [ marked as suitable for DM800] do I then not need to bother about the bootloader version for that image, because it is patched, so will the patched image update, or down grade , my bootloader accordingly.
Hope you understand me and can offer some help.
    many thanks
    Chris

your understanding is correct. the patched images will say the name of the bootloader on the image name ie ssl84b etc.

this will include the bootloader within the image and so you won't have to flash a separate bootloader.....make sure the sim version is correct for your box....

Thanks for the rapid reply, regarding SIM, my sim is 210, therefore can I only use 210 software or will 2.01 be OK as well.
      Thanks
      Chris

Chris. As long as your box is sim2, then any 800hd sim2 image is safe to flash to your box.

Thanks for the info, sorry to be a pain but may I just recap?
Image must be same bootloader as my Dreambox, unless it is a patched image in which case Dreambox will be updated to BL image is patched with. Can I use an erlier bootloader image, or would that not be a good idea?
Also as my Sim is 210, image must be for either Sim 201 or Sim 210.
          Is that correct.
Also is there anything else I should take into account.
          many thanks
          Chris

Just pick a image with ssl84a or b which are the latest, your box may have ssl82, it dosen't matter. So you have you image nfi file, also have the ssl84a and b on your desktop. Flash the image it may go on right away, if so sorted. It may let you know that it is looking for the bootloader, so flash with the ssl nfi file 1st don't reboot the box, open another browser, and then you should be able to flash the image, click reboot when finished.

Many thanks to all who have advised me, but disaster has struck!
I recieved my new DM800HD (clone) and fired it up, however I was unable to get it to receive any channels, it appeared to be lockto another satellite, however after some time I maaged to get it to look at 28.2E and did a scan and it showed over 900 channels, but I could not get it to play any of them.
I next reflashed it with a new image and once again it apperaed the same, loads of chanells but would not play them.
In desperation I reflashed again this time withli-enigma2-jade2-dm800-20090330-6311.nfi, I now tried to scan but it locked up and would not move, so I rebooted and then got the ERROR 1 NO CA FOUND message.
I am presently waiting for a serial cable to be delivered (ebay) but I am unsure what to do then.
I know I need to access with the serial cable and refalsh and I have an image which I think will be fine: BlackHole-1-6-6-dm800hd-ramiMAHER-v3-.nfi, but I would like someone who knows more top advise me.
Is this image suitable and what do I do once I have reflashed this image.
I do not know what I would do without this forum and thank you for bothering with my problems.
The details from my DM800HD are:
              Product name: DM800
              Bootloader version: 82(2011-01-25)
              Flash size: 64MB
              Production date: 2011-11-30
              mID: 13
              Serial number: ****
              MAC Address: **:**:**:**:**
              SIM; SIM210
              Regards
              Chris

Chris, bad news there mate. But I am sure you will sort it, read up on how to recover it. Ideally you need to use an old desktop, with the rs232 port, and I would use the image you flashed it with first as you know that it is a sim2 image. I think you need to concentrate more on the settings of the box and tuner config. Also rater than scanning for channels, load a set of ready made bouquets, you find them on the forum.

But make sure the image you flash is sim2 for the 800hd.

                  OK fine,
I have an old desktop with serial port, but have also ordered a usb to serial with the serial cable.
Can you recommend a suitable image to get the thing operating again.
                  Thanks
                  Chris
