    Hdd for dm800hd

Hi, my brother has just brought dm800 hd clone, and wants to install a hdd, could anyone recommend an hdd, also would a external be a good option as I've heard there could be heat issues, thanks

I've always gone internal and never had any issues. It's hidden away. Mine is 2.5" internal sata hdd. Choose what size you require....

If your worried about the heat issues then why not do a CIFS mount either on your PC or maybe a NAS drive, I know some of the images can be a bit flaky with external USB caddys

I can agree with both of the previous posters.
I also use internal drives on mine and have had no heat issues. I have tried around eleven of these boxes and all been fine. I tend to use 250Gb Western digital drives, thats quite a lot of recording space - about 30 hours of Hi Def footy! For SD you can expect about four times this. HDD is usually used for timeshift storage too, so if your bro is the type to leave a channel on pause for hours while he has his tea etc. this will use disk space too (but deleted once you cancel the timeshift).

I think the quality of the box and it's placement will determine the ability to run internal disks, if you have a recent box, the quality seems better, i have a few older boxes and the build is substanstially inferior.
i have some boxes with a switch to turn off the fan and even with it switched off i get no problems. my boxes are never "stuffed" in a cabinet and have good air flow all round so maybe this helps.
I also have both USB attached HDDs and have used NAS drives all to good effect.
As Alom5 says, the internal option is neat (and my preferred), USB not so neat but good option, works just as well, NAS/Cifs more technically fiddly to set up but works well if your network is good.
        hope this helps...
