Is there a way I can monitor data Tx & Rx ?

    Hi,

Is there a way I can monitor the data Tx & Rx to/from the DM800?

I am hoping to use my DM800 abroad via a Mobile Broadband Dongle. The Service Provider will change ?10 per 50mb Data.

I would like to monitor how much data I am currently using at home so I know how much it is likely to cost me.

Also, are there CAMS that use less data than others? If so any info much appreciated.

Also, are there any settings I can "tinker" with to minimize data usage (obviously I will have the EPG off).

    THANK IN ADVANCE.

      as root, at the cli

      ifconfig eth0

      at the end will be:

      RX bytes:6759 (6.6 KiB) TX bytes:6822 (6.6 KiB)

Despite the cost of living, it's still very popular.

The data needed for normal cam operation is so slight that its hardly worth worrying about. I'd guess your ?10 would last you around a month at an average 4 hours a day viewing. It would still be interesting to monitor things though. Your best bet for monitoring is actually to simply connect your setup to a dongle and check usage using the providers 'usage' pages. Monitoring locally would tend to get you slightly inflated usage statistics as you would also be capturing local messages between the box and the dongle.

All cams need the same data. Whilst there may be a slight difference in the protocol overhead it will be very small.
