    DM800HD issues and ssl#84 question

    Hi there,

    I have a Dreambox 800HD clone with Sim 2.01 ssl#82

I have been trying to get my box to use an internal harddrive without much luck.

I've tried OpenPLi2.1 and Blackhole 1.3.3 Phoenix - both have given different problems.
OpenPli locks up when recording some stuff and when playing back from the HDD.
BH won't record to the HDD despite being mounted. The mount even disappears.

I am thinking that upgrading to ssl#84b might help me.

I have read that it is a simple matter of flashing via web browser with a new image that has ssl#84 in it....but this won't work - i just get the invalid/old image error.

I am at my wits end here...been at it for a few weeks, flashing different images (ssl#82) to try and get a stable system without success. I am so close to throwing the box out the window

Anyone any advice (in layman's terms) or can you suggest an image that will get me to ssl#84?

    Thanks in advance...

    Hi mate.
You will need to flash the ssl84 nfi file 1st. Don't reboot the box, open another browser and then flash your image nfi file, then reboot. But make sure that both are for sim201.

After flashing the ssl84 file I flash an image that has ssl84?

Don't know, the box won't even boot fully now...and that's without accessing the HDD :-(

Booting gets to about 25% then it freezes.

If I load a new image I have to reboot a few times to get it to start.

Yes that's right, flash the ssl don't reboot, open another browser , then flash your image, then reboot.
But as smirnoff say's, it could be your drive that is damaged.

I took the drive out and ran tests on it. All fine.

Still won't boot with drive removed.

                  Yeah.

I flashed the ssl84b file and then without rebooting I tried to flash one of the latest OpenPLi ssl84b images...
....but it failed to flash stating "invalid/old file"

I had no choice but to reboot and try to flash the new image. Seemed to work ok.

I will get it up and running and then introduce the HDD again...which I have just reformatted.

Thanks for the help so far guys...I will let you know how I get on.

                    Back again.

I still haven't gotten the harddrive to work.

Been wiping partitions, reformatting as ext3 with gparted and dreambox still plays up.

I have also found damaged sectors (and a few IDNF's) on parts of the harddrive. Could the DM have done this? It was a new SATA drive.

I seem to have the DM800HD working now.

It is evident that there is a issue with the box itself when using an internal SATA.

My solution was to use eSATA with a separate 5V power supply. Now I can time shift, record, playback and move files to my PC via FTP.

I'm not sure if I can be bothered to send the box back for repairs cause it means being without TV for a few weeks :-(

FYI I previously used different harddrive and internal sata/power cables...before anyone suggests that may have been the issue.

Thanks to everyone for their help previously.

                        I bought another DM800HD recently.

This one was different in that it had a heat sink instead of a fan.

Exact same issues with harddrive! Box crashes if I initialize. If I format with gparted I can mount...but then it crashes when I record.

Can I be that unlucky? I have been reading everywhere and can't see anyone with the same issue. The only solution I have is to use the drive as esata with separate power supply.
