I dont see what difference switching to a paid channel like Sky Sports or fta channel like BBC1 should affect signal as some share the same transponders,

When I go from bbc1 95% to sky sports 50% I have no probs. I dont care what the signal level is as long as I dont get breakup. You never said if you are getting blocking or picture breakup??

have just fitted an inline amplifier and this has improved the signal now when i go from a fta channel to a premium channel the signal only drop by 20% to about 70%
(picture was breaking up before not now )

I wouldnt think an inline amp would make that much difference.
What is your tuner? If its the M 801A Tuner you should be get 90s in most channels including the hd channels.
I would make sure the tuner is seated correctly and all conections are tight because this doesnt sound right.
If you can try it on a friends Sky dish and see what the percentage is like then.Would rule out several things that way.
Going back to the inline amp they were generally introduced to help older tuners that had glitchy hd channels.

And just to add to Andy's comment your dish or LNB may be slightly out and may need a slight tinkering.

And yes that may mean getting the ladder out but you can also do that on the box itself, i do it all the time as my dish is always moving as i keep promising myself to put up my new brackets, but the weather have been Sh+te and been a bit lazy as sorts.

ITgate TGM220 (swapable tuner), Dreambox 800 pro, Dreambox 500c x 2, DBox, Popbox media player.

i think this is the old tuner

now that the gliching has stopped my m8 is happy with it so i am not gonna mess about with it any more

              thanks for all the reply's

if i did put the M 801A Tuner in would i have to re flash the box ?

no need to reflash if swapping the tuner. straight forward swap
