external hd, mount failed on vu +duo blackhole

ok people, been trying to setup my vu duo for the past 2 days.
all seems to be good except for my external hd. I cant get it to initialise. after menu/setup/system/harddisk , i can see its there but after i try to intialise, it says unable to intialize harddisk error; mount failed.
I tried vix which initialised the drive without probs[but i didn't like the vix image]
    I've tried bh 167 & bh 1.73
Im using a lacie 160gb external hd
your help will be much appreciated, as this is the last thing i need to complete my setup
    thanks
its a clone vu + duo

Doesnt matter ifits a clone or not, jus the same.

If using a ext HDD you dont need to intitialize it.

Format it to fat32 from the pc using fat32format.

Then plug in hdd and fire up duo, then blue blue and mount the hdd to media/hdd.

          try that

If using BH173, and assuming the HDD is connected by USB, try the USB format wizard in the Blue-Blue menu.

Start the wizard and insert the USB when prompted.

Rodbouy, lincsat. thanks for you help
First I formated the hd in usb format wizard[ bh 1.73 ]
              then mounted in blue panel
but, I also had to initialise in menu/hard disk
              then finally it worked
Thanks guys. now I can stop messing with the thing
