    DM800 HD SE teething problems

    Hi guys
my dm800hd se arrived this morning and yes i creamed my knickers, looks the part and definately sounds quiet. Ive attempted to install and image which seemed to work, i was reccomended the OpenPLi 2.1 by Shady which seems to be goin down well, i like the feel of it. Ive followed the sat set up and think ive dont this kinda right - i have all the fta channels but the signal strength on most of them is under halfway, this doesnt effect viewing but didnt know whether this was ok. One thing i have noticed is when i flick between vermon media tivo box and watch the fta channels (e4, itv etc.) and then flick onto my dreambox i feel the quality of the SD picture is really poor ive messed with the settings on the image/box you nkow hdmi/60hz/panscale etc. ive fiddled with all these settings and just cant help but feel when eventually get to see some hd on my dm800 its looks a lot better, i hope anyway. gotta bit stuck on the setting up nonusals tutorial - stored postition? i didnt really know what to do here so i just left it as 0001.
once i get what channels i want from other sources is it only then worth doing a dreambox edit boquets etc. i was gonna start now but dont know wether to wait?
cheers for all the help so far
especially Shady the legend i owe that guy

I too noticed that the virmins SD pic quality was much better then the same SD channels on sly. If you do a google you'll see that sly have slowly been decreasing the quality of some SD channels, presumably to free up bandwidth for HD channels?

There's no real answer except that you just get used to it

Im now interested to see what hd picture this dm800 fires out, then again if i am unhappy who do i blame? myself for thinking id get the same quality hd pic if not better than vermons - or do i blame the paid server person whos providing me with you know what - or do i go back to the box and play with the images. I suppose time will tell all ey lads.
        ps thanks for the replies

actually just found a channel 3885 which is upscaled to hd as a taster and am actually impressed with the hd, just cant believe the contrast and pic quality betwen the 2, i kno theres a lot of factors in this including what tv you have to what image and settings etc. but back in the cable days when i had dreambox500c and hd was piloted with vermon the 2 compared was exactly the same i actually recall moaning on a forum - i take it back guys im just a newbie moaner learning his trade

Are you saying that the PQ is exactly the same?

It's well known that virgin reprocess the broadcast signals before they stream them, I have both a virgin box and a dm800se and I can flick between the 2 and there's definately a difference.
