Upgrade Sim Card 2.1 on HD800?

I'm having a look at upgrading my box image to run this -:

OpenPLi - Open Source Set-Top Box Software

Only thing is I'd need to upgrade to bootloader 84 (my box doesn't have a sim and it currently running Bootloader 75)

Can I buy a 2.1 sim from here to upgrade the Bootloader?

And is it just as simple as opening up the box and inserting the sim?

what do you mean you aint got a sim in it mate,?

you can change sims from ferrari to/from sim2 but you need to flash the correcponding image for that sim type before booting the unit, (not sure if your pli link are clone sim2 images) you may need to give a bit more info bout your current box, clone/original and sim type and the situation with your current sim or lack of

Bought the box in Dec 2009 from "Superman" (since found out he's banned from here)

When I recently opened my box to get the tuner changed, the sim slot was empty (or at least looked that way)

any references on lcd when box boots up mate, maybe sim2 or ferrari ? , wasnt aware it would run without a sim, maybe the sim is only used on initially flashing the image/bootloader, if so and the lcd does say sim2 , i see no reason why a new sim2.1 wouldnt work, just ensure you flash the correct image with 84b bootloader built in, lots of images available on the sim2 team site

The bootloader version has got a relation with the
image installed. Alone you cannot upgrade a Bootloader.,as it must be compatible with the image.

i had a 800hd with the rev j tuner i dont think you can upgrade to a sim 2.01/2.1 card, you will have to upgrade to a a ferrari sim, then load the latest image for the ferrari sim, you will find all the images on the ferrari forum just google it and have a look at the images.
