    DM800SE Clone Fitting Hard Disk

Tried 3 different laptops hard disks both internally in my dm800se and in an external caddy(uses 2 usb cables) all result in the drive not spinning up properly and the dreambox not loading up. It seems to be a power issue as if I power drive from an external source it all seems fine

Any ideas? just bought the box

What's the spec of the HDDs?

When I used to have an se I used WD and Toshiba 5400 drives with no probs.

No cables only if you try in a caddy external. My caddy seems to have to usb cables to boost its power if needed. Either way that doesnt work(external caddy into 800se USB portS)

          Ive tried an Hitachi 500GB 5K750-500 / 01J15321
          Western Digital 437956-001 (WD800BEVS)
          and 1 other

          Any ideas?

don't know how old your box is but I vaguely remember when the 1st batch of clone SE`s came out they suffered from a power issue and couldn't accept a hdd, I think there was a fix that involved swapping out a capacitor, sorry cant find any links to back this up but others may confirm , you could try google with a few keywords and "+" sign

eg- power + install hdd + dm800se + not booting

you could try booting with just the hdd, no tuner, fans, usb connected to see if that provides enough juice , wont fix it but will confirm its a power shortage issue

lastly, if you have one you could try a mains externally powered hdd via usb

            good luck mate

I think a power hdd would work fine however I think as I've just bought it this feature should work . Will take it back to be fixed or replaced
