help needed error message when mounting hdd mkfs failed

I have a vu+ solo and i am trying to initialize a 2tb external harddrive and i keep getting an error message saying mkfs failed, can anyone help me please

connect the drive to a pc and format to ext3
now connect to vu+ and mount there should be no need to format again
this should work
