Original DM800 HD SE vs Clone - What the downside ?

Hi Guys,

Please excuse me if this question have been asked before, I have tried to google and search here on the forums, but can't seem to find anything usefull, and I want to order today

Today I have a orginal 800 HD PVR, and I now need a second Dreambox. I have been looking to buy a Original 800 HD SE V2 for around 399 Euros.

But then a friend of mine told me that the clones should be just as good today, and sells for just about 40-50% of the price of an original box, even after paying customs.

So I wonder if I should try a clone, and see how it goes. I have read alot about the clones, and looked at the different versions, and from what I gather most recommend that you buy a 800 SE D6 version or a 800 SE A8P version ?? So I am pretty much down to choose between these versions:

Original 800 HD SE (530 USD)
Clone 800 HD SE D6 (155 USD)
Clone 800 HD SE A8P Wifi (180 USD)

Can someone please explaine to me what the up and downsides are on the 3 versions above, except the difference in price ofcause ?

For ex. on the A8P version it says: Note:For this box just support the original software from Dm website , so please don't mix the software in the box , and flash the OEM software again ,it will make the box die !

That worries me, since I really dont understand what they mean, and I certainly would not like to kill the box by doing something wrong.

So could someone please be so kind to help me out picking the right box for me ? I am going to use it for Satelitt viewing, and maybe some CS.. Things like Wifi, other tuners and so on is really not that important. I just want a box that can do everything, and is just as easy to handle as the Original 800 HD that I am used to.

you get what you pay for in this world mate
there is no comparison between genuine and clone
the only difference is the price, clones do work well
and there is plenty of support, but just think how can
a clone be of the same quality as a original when it's half
the price. so it's your choice what you want to go for and
if you want save money look on the bay there are always
lots for sale genuine and clone models

just remember there are clone images for both sim and
Ferrari models and if you go for a clone never flash a image
for a genuine box or or mix the sim model images it will give you a error1 problem that will then need a dreamup panel to clear the box

Thanks for the reply. I have to admit, that I really dont agree that you can use the term "you get what you pay for", since that is very often not the case. Where I live a Coca Cola cost around 5-10 times as much as the exact same Coca Cola does in China. Do do I get a 5-10 times better product, than i do if I buy the Coca Cola in China ? No I do not think so... I doubt the hardware parts in a original dreambox is very different from whats inside the clones. The reason it can be so much cheaper, can be due to alot of reasons, like cheaper salaries, lower profits, lower company taxes, and you can go on.

So for me, the difference in price is not enough to make the best buy. I prefere to "get value for money" over just paying a high price for something thats "original".

I would still love some feedback on the above mentioned models and the differencies in use etc.

i will say it again you get what you pay for
and things cost more in different countries
i bet a worker in china does'nt get the same pay
as a worker in London also clones are made to a price and not to original parts, i did say clones do work well and they have lots of support and users. for me that's not enough to to tempt me just look at the vu thread and see how many Chinese
vu clones have kept blowing the power units etc: the best clone dreambox or has it's now called sunray is the 800hd model.so if it'e value your after
then a clone will always be the cheapest option to go for

Hi, i had experience with both genuine and clone SE models, and i can say i have no issues with the clone SE it runs exactly the same , with much lower price , and the parts seem the same inside, maybe they just over price them , its been going for around 2 years so even if it dies now it would have been more then worth it,

When going with clone Dreambox models, why not just buy a Vu+ or Xtrend box for example? Things like CPU and RAM are the same or better, the price is much lower than a orig Dreambox. You get support for these boxes, latest OpenPLi works fine and there are newer kernels available. Dreambox stopped opensourcing their images/plugins with newer kernels (only used in orig Dreambox image which nobody uses).

Altough I had much fun with my 800SE A8P clone (you can threat it like an original box), I'm glad I could still sell it for a good price and now have the Xtrend ET6500. For just a bit more I have: warranty, better CPU, more RAM, better/faster image support, HbbTV and it's more easy to sell it as a second hand. Only things the 800SE score better: flashing over network, LCD screen. ET6500 has a replacable tuner too. Info, German but understandable: http://wiki.et-view-support.com/inde...sicht_Hardware

When going a low budget opensource Enigma2 box, I'd go for a Cloud-iBox (Vu Solo clone, latest images now not working see thread) or an original Xtrend ET4000. With an original ET4000 you again pay a little more for a lot more.

Just bought a DM800 HD se from China. It came without a manual but I got that from the Dream Multimedia site. It also came with a Chinese image so, after four abortive attempts, I found one that was stable. Then I had to copy the latest Satellite.xml file over to the box. Got quite a few "No CA" errors but it had a tiny reset button on the back panel that cleared them and put it into STOP mode. From there I could flash a new NFI file. A bit of a battle but now it's up and running and works perfectly. Would recommend it.

To get the best of both worlds, try installing A8P simcard in your clone box.
You can then use all the original images without a problem ... for now.
Note that the A8P simcard is for DM800se and DM500HD only.
