hard drive help

hi guy and gals i have a dreambox 800hd pvr and im having some trouble installing a hard drive in it, i have put one in and set it up using the dreambox bible guide but when i tried to record it was very jumpy and when i tried to set it for a record everything seemed fine but the recording didnt happen and it crashed the box. the hard drive is from a laptop and was formated before it was installed and is 320g any help would be much appreciated
