DM800HDSE suddenly wants to reformat the hard disk? Help! :(

My DM 800HDSE constantly locks up to the point where I'm having to reboot the damn thing on a daily basis just to try and maintain stability. If I don't, then after a couple of days it seems to 'forget' recordings which I've set up.

Tonight, I mistakenly unplugged it while it was recording something. I realised my error and plugged it back in. I thought the only problem would be that I'd have to record the programme again (it gets several repeats so that's not an issue).

However, while the hard drive is still attached - and with only around 100Gb free of the 1Tb drive - the Dreambox is refusing to record on it.

In its Device Manager, then selecting Storage Devices, the hard drive (eSATA) is showing up on both the first and third options.

On the first, it's got a green dot and says "Please press green to initialize this hard disk" and on the third, it has a red X but knows the correct path /media/hdd

For some reason, this menu also seems to think a 120Gb SATA hard disk is installed, althoughh there's a red X on there too. I know there is not a hard disk there.

Now, since to Initialise the disc means to format it - which I do NOT want to do. How can I get the Dreambox recognising the drive again, please?

    Thanks.

PS. If anyone can also tell me a way to stop this box locking up all that time that would be much appreciated also. I tried installing a swap file on there but then stopped that as it made no difference. Apparently there's a way to boot the box from a USB stick which would help but I really need an "Idiot's Guide" for that as the one I read was impossibly convoluted.

Phew! Just did a couple of full reboots of the Dreambox and it's back to normal. I guess things temporarily went a little ka-ka.

If anyone can help re: stopping it from locking up, though, that's be much appreciated.

Sounds like it may be out of memory, in dreambox control centre program check how much free memory the box has, if it's full you need to remove some plugins, the USB thing ain't worth the hassle imho as it doesn't truly boot from USB, if your box is a sim2 clone then try my pli image in the dm800se image section, as it mounts all drives automagically so may fix your hdd issue and it's pretty much fully setup for UK viewing

If you have e2settings manager which comes pre-installed on many popular images try uninstalling this package (tspanel is easy to do this if you are unfamiliar), this extension causes me troubles on some images.

Also if you have time-shift enabled (for rewind tv), it will be constantly writing to your storage device, if the device or connection to it has problems it could make your box freeze up intermittently.

If none of the above apply to you, try some other images.
