DM800 HD PVC change cable tuner to sat tuner

    Hi all,

I purchased a new DM800 HD PVR clone off Ebay for ?50 but it has a Philips cable tuner inside it instead of a sat tuner like i was told.

The mainboard inside the box is REV G

Is it worth me buying off Ebay a Rev M tuner for ?30 to put in it or shall i just return the box instead ?

The person who I bought the DM it off is sorry and will give me a full refund if needed.

I am just concerned that if i do change it to the Rev M tuner it may not work or images may not like the Rev G mainboard / Rev M tuner combo

    Any thoughts ??

    Thanks

ps, Another though is that if i send it back all other dm800 hd pvr sat boxes are priced around ?100 not like the ?50 i paid or do cable boxes generally do not fetch as much as a sat box??

If you are unsure about anything then send it back for a full refund, Order one from any one of the PRC suppliers for about ?100 at least then you know your getting one with a sat tuner that works

It sold cheap as cable is pretty much dead in UK, bar a few in the know,
Can't quite remember if rev m will work with your main board, but you could ask a seller of tuners online ,
It's easily swap able, bit like pci-e connection on computers,
The only other thing I would be concerned with is which sim it has, if it's an early sim1 clone then you gonna have some work getting a decent later image on it,
Tbh, Digi's probably right, send it back

decided to have a little play with box -

flashed the box with 'Open Pli 2.1 beta dm800 27/10/2012 by djstroom'

Image seems okay, loads fine and all menus etc

Changed the 'philips cu1216mk3' cable tuner to a 'broadcom bcm4505 dvb s2' tuner (removed it out of my dm800hd se) and in 'tuner configuration' menu it detects the tuner as a 'bcm 4505'

The problem i did have though was when auto scanning for channels it could not find any at all, not too sure if i was doing something wrong though.

In the 'sat finder ' menu it was picking up my signal as 94%

May flash it with newnigma as i know my way around the system setup menu a little better and hopefully find some channels.

        Any thoughts ???

        oh, nearly forgot its a sim201 84b

        Thank

well done on getting that far mate, presume you configured the tuner then ? how about if you load somebody elses bouquets, Medlock does a decent set http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...5/index15.html or you could try "autobouquets" http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...9/index16.html

            Hi southpaw,

Fitted the tuner quite easily but got a little confused getting the transponder set up properly.
I think the setting in the open pli image are a little different that the newnigma image I am using on in my lounge.

Maybe the auto bouquets you suggest may make life a bit easier
