GigaBlue - how do you flash an image?

I hope somebody can help as I don't have a working TV now

So I bought a GigaBlue Quad Plus but it came with openpli which I don't like, so I downloaded openmips image from the official support site (openMips Image Download) and unzipped to a memory stick as somebody suggested, plugged memory stick into back of box powered on.. now it just gives green screen of death and boot loops every time.

Imaging the dreambox was much simpler.. hold a button in, go to webpage in browser and chose the image you want.. for the gigablue is there something quite as simple?

Every google result I find is either for a different box or video info in youtube in german, as I'm not fluent in german this doesn't help me

Every image I get has the files in a folder \gigablue\quadplus\(files) do I need to move these files to the root of the stick or just have the folders there? Will I see any progress of the imaging? I saw nothing the first time I tried which made it now not booting up.

    any help is most appreciated.

    From another forum!
Have you correct bootloader on first before image?

Put the bootloader on fat32 formatted usb stick, power off box and put stick in front usb port power on box

when you see conf on display hit the ok button bootloader takes about 4 seconds to load

Then do the same with image

thanks for the tips, so I downloaded the bootloader from here openMips Image Download (this one: gigablue_bootloader_gbquad_20130507.zip) and extracted to a fat32 formatted stick, powered off put stick in the back usb port and powered on, it doesn't have any effect, it just boots as normal.

(I didn't read boot loop error properly! now I deleted multiquickbutton extension via FTP and it boots up to the original image. (phew!)

      I will try again.

Before I risk totally destroying this box.. is this the correct bootloader? shouldn't it be "gigablue quad plus" not just "gigablue quad"? I can't find a bootloader for the quad plus on the official site

Your guess is good as mine mate. If you have it working why don't you wait till you can find out a bit more before you goose it.
Did you get my pm? Not a lot of info out there hopefully another owner might come forward and help you,

Ah yes I see the PM with link to info on a site, thanks I'll check it out.

The main issue I have with openpli is that it magically somehow populates the EPG with basic info, no series or episode info like rytec provides. Usually this is from epgimport but I can't find any extensions named like this at all.

I installed crossepg (I prefer this) but it's not using this data for the EPG, it's still using the crappy basic info that auto downloads somehow..

The other issue with this image is there is no "recording path" in the setup system menu, so I can't find where to change this... as I have no internal HDD I record everything to my NAS.. I'll poke around maybe it's hidden somewhere else...

I tried both back and front, to no avail.

I found how to disable the automatic epg population and use crossepg, but due to another poor design choice of openpli (this really is a bad image) the series and episode details are hidden from the epg display and titles of shows, so I'll still need to image it somehow. I asked also in another forum hopefully somebody knows how to image these quad plus boxes.

think thats a very ungrateful attitude you got going on there mate, please remember that pli team members giver there time and skills to help people like you an i, to dismiss it as "poor design" and "bad image" is plain wrong,
maybe you should learn to code yourself and maybe knock out a little ipk , or even a backup image to get newbies up+running?, and then have randomers criticise it as it`s not quite fitting in to there requirements or they dont know how to configure it.
many tens/hundreds of thousands of pli users worldwide who can configure pli to fit there needs so to call it a bad image is rude to say the least !

I think Openpli certainly make the best images for my box, nice and simple like me.

i dont think open pli do a image for the quad but open mips which i have used and now use open rsi work very well and of course are based on open pli which is a very good image in its self. to load a new image format 32 a usb stick put image on it insert usb in the front of the box(remove any other usb stick ie for epg if you don;t remove it it will just keep booting the image you have on the box at the moment)power box off /power on watching the front lcd screen it will say new image found do you want to install press ok sit back let it do its thing then set up your box to your requirements

Not strictly true, yes their E2 is loosely based on Pli but their OE based on the OE-Alliance which is no longer any thing to do with Pli
