    No Horizontal Channels

    Hi all
I have a dm800se running blackhole image with a motorised dish. my box is set for a few satellites and was all working fine.
A couple of days ago i tried to switch to italia and it wouldn't so i went back to uk sly but on my return only half of my channels were available, after a while trying different things i found out that the channels that were accessible were all on the vertical polarity.
So i did a scan and my system is only picking up Vertical channels. I have googled several times but cannot find anything about this problem, surely this is not a first. I have purchased a broadcom replacement tuner but the problem still exist. Can anyone offer an explanation and possibly a fix.
Oh also i have a skybox f3 which i have now put on to my existing system and everything is working fine with all channels available.

Thanx in anticipation of your help

could be faulty lnb or bad connection.

Is your motorised system fully functional are all cables connections watertight and secure? As psats says faulty voltage to and from lnb. Try your dm in someone elses house and see if this eliminates the box as problem.

usually when you have all vertical channels working but no horizontal (or vice versa) it means the lnb is the problem , in which case its a replacement . some times this problem can be intermittent at the start , meaning the channels may suddenly not open and then in a few hours open again , but usually in time the channels just wont open any more .

try the box on another sat dish , leave it connected a while , if it works fine I think you can rule out a tuner issue . actually I would think that if you had a tuner problem that all channels would be affected in some manner , so to my thinking that may rule out a tuner problem .

the satellite cable could be an issue if its quite old or has water ingress etc , but if its reasonably new that shouldn't be an issue .

if you try the box on another dish and it works perfectly you can rule out a tuner problem , you could also try a different box on your dish to see if that box has the same problem . if its not a tuner issue and the other box also has the same problem chances are the issue is related to the dish/lnb/cable .

the only other thing would be the image , ive had a problem recently with one or two blackhole images when being used for multisat , I could receive 28 perfectly / only about 20 channels on 13 east and no channels on 19 east , a reflash using a version of blackhole I knew worked well solved the problem . that doesn't mean your image is the problem but it may be .
i love it when a dreambox comes together.

Hi again piopat been a while since we spoke. And once again thanx for your invaluable advice in the past.
Ok so I have hooked up the dm800se to the existing sly dish and am receiving freesat itv bbc bbc2 channel5 and channel 4 these are broadcast on both vertical and horizontal. ******************************* but not bothered about that at the moment as it seems the box is ok on the fixed 28 dish. I am thinking your correct and the lnb has a problem. I will get a new one and try that to see if it solves the problem as that is the easiest fix, the cable is quite a run so do that first. thanx for all your help guys and I will report back in case someone else has this problem.

if your going to try a new lnb first remove the old one and check the lnb collar measurments etc , the lnb collar is what holds the lnb via the lnb neck . lnb necks and collars are not all the same size and shape so ensure the lnb you get will fit the lnb collar on the dish . also the lnb may be ok and the cable could be the issue , so you probably should also purchase some cable in case it needs changing . cables can rot in time where they connect to the lnb , and also cable can have water ingress where water is getting into the cable , such things would cause similar problems to what you are encountering . so maybe check the cable before buying an lnb as that may save you a few quid and be an easier fix . lastly if it is the cable at fault and it is rotted or has water ingress try to lay the cable as best you can to avoid this in the future and put insulation tape around the f connector where it connects to the lnb to keep and fluids out .
