DM800HD SE simA8P - setup and image advice

Was hoping for some advice on basic setup and image recommendations for DM800HD SE - I'm a newbie to this so apologies in advance!!

Anyway I've seen and googled but get basically overwhelmed by the info out there but not sure its relevant/where to start. A lot relates to setup for the box using sim 2.1, but my basic understanding is that sim A8P make the box just like OEM.

So if that's the case can I just follow the OEM manual which I can download from dream multimedia? Also assuming I can get it set up and working, is there any nice images recommeded for it that are easy to install and wont corrupt the box?

If anyone can direct me to any specific guides/youtubes which I can then follow that would be great!!

You need to flash the boot loader first with the 2.1 sim then power off, not reboot, change sim then flash your original image. I am currently running the OpenPLi image and it runs well.
Hold on/off button whilst power up,
when you see STOP in window let on/off button go and you will see your boxes I/p address.
Enter that in your computer and you will see a dreambox screen which allows you to flash bootloader.
flash bootloader and power off box and swap sim
go through the same routine once again and flash original image of your choice.
DONT flash bootloader again just reboot and set up image.

One correction:

Sim A8P make the box just like ORIGINAL box
So yo can load images used for original boxes.
Not patched or modified images.

Just follow the steps in Dogsbowlucks message.

Hi again, just received my clone DM800HD SEwith A8P sim and connected up ready to start trying to apply new image...

Anyway Re Dogsbowlucks instructions im a bit lost with the steps to swap 2.1 sim etc? I presume I dont have to do that and can just try download/flash of 'official' image like openpli4.0?

Really what I'm hoping to do now I have the box is get a nice looking (stable) image on it which has decent EPG and install a cam line for emulator. The out of box image doesnt have ts panel installed by the looks of it - all Ive done is setup and manual scan for channels so the box is showing all the freeview stuff (with very basic interface/image) but no EPG's etc.

So what I'm thinking to do is:
1. Downlaid Openpli4.0 image nfi file and flas it to box from web browser - hopefully that will work without getting the erro I read is common when you do this?
2. download TSPanel .apk file and install manually on the box.
3. Once I have access to TS panel hope then I can select/install the emultaor/softcam of choice (mgcamd in my case)
4. Configure the line on box in newcamd.list

Hopefully thats it - was just wanting to check with you experts befoe I do any of this. If anyone has any advice or even links to external sites/youtube that have idiot proof guide that I can follow at my own pace instead of bothering you with probably silly questions I'm happy to do that!!

Slightly frustrating in that this is my 2nd DM clone and this is like the pain I had to go through learning how to set up the 2.1SIM - I could have ordered the same box (which was also cheaper) and could have probably backed up and reflased my existing setup and be up and running quicker, but I thought the benefit of the official image/software support might be better long term - hope I havent made a bad decision!!.

Update to above. Looks like I'm already hitting a snag...

While I was waiting for some feedback on recommended image I tried a dry run of the steps to flash image via web browser. Have followed procedure to have machine off cold- hold power button on front til the stop displays with IP address. Leaving dreambox in that state with colour dream logo when I enter IP in browser it tries to connect to web control interface NOT boot loader web interface that has flash firmware option, is it seems to skip this in browser.

Has anyone had this issue before and can advise the solution as if I can't update image on box via browser then I think I'm gonna be stuck getting any further with setup. Any help much appreciated (and getting desperate!)...

After some trial and error I managed to get into the bootloader web interface via browser to flash the image. When rebooted it ran through setup wizard which was OK apart from asking if wanted softcam setup and only provided 2 option cccam or scam. Not sure what to do next - the cam I need is mgcamd and can't find it anywhere in the image to install via plugins or whatever. This image (Openpli 4) doesn't have tspanel either which is what I've used before to get in to emu manager.

I've read several threads with mixed reports of mgcamd working/not working on openpli 4. Am a bit lost in all the decodin stuff, all I know is I need mgcamd for my 'line' to work (and my other box uses very 1.35 if that makes any odds). Anyone recommend a dm800hdse image with mgcamd suport and I can try flashing the box with it now I know how to do that bit!��

Hi, I got my box set up finally so now looking for the best image to install. Is the openpli on you use as standard from their download site and/or do you have to then download a load of additional plugins to make it worthwhile and if so can you recommend?

All I'm really after is a nice interface while is easy to use and has a good EPG with bouquets I can customise...

try going to plugins then press the blue button and another set of options come up look and you should find what your looking for.if your box came with the a8p sim you should just install the image the bootloader should be in the image.Just remember to install an original image and do what most of have done install a few and try them out and use a usb stick in the back of the box for your picons and chanel lists the flash memory is way to small
