Which one you got... DM800 clone or original?

Hi, I am going to get a Dm800 but am still unsure of which one to get... either a clone or original! I have done my research and have looked into the pros and cons, but ultimatley i can see 200 reasons to get a clone over the original.

I see many members talking about their Dm800's clone/original but what i would like to know is which one have you got, and how is it working out for you? How much did you pay, and where did you get them from?

Question for clone owners: how are the later images working out? does the dual-boot method work, i.e. install image with bootloader 69 on internal flash, and run any new image from the external flash?

Thanks, any input is much appreciated!

      Hi
I have the dm800 clone for one year without any hardware problem
For new images also no problem and tell now i have installed more than 5 latest images on external flash and all working perfectly
the only thing i faced when doing deep rebooting of the receiver doesnot reboot and you have to unplug the power and wait for two minutes and plugin again and reboot normally to barry allen menu
i am thinking about what 200 hundrads reasons to buy clone apart from price i did not find anything reasonable
      regards

If your going to spend less then ?300 then wait for the 500hd. Never buy a clone at that price, especially from overseas. in the end you will pay the same price with problems and returns costs.

No ones sure but from Dreambox distributors we have heard in September or even early October.

That is exactly what i would like to determine! I have 3 Dm500 clones, one of which i have had for almost 3 years. I have never had any problems. These clones were also produced abroad, probably china, and are very stable and reliable. This is exactly why im thinking 'why not get a dm800 clone!'

The DM800 clones are meant to be of a better build quality than the originals, and overcome issues which the original versions have, e.g. overheating!

                Original Dm800 = ?400
                Cloned DM800 = ~?225
The difference is around half the price of an original - ?200 which is actually a fair bit of cash!

What i really want to find out is any major negative reasons for buying a clone, because currently i cant see any!! the only difference from having an original is having to use external storage for loading new images! If it means i save ?200 i will quiet happily boot from external storage every time i switch on my clone!

                  Hi
i have also three dm500 clones and all working well without any problem for the last three years
i have one dm800 clone also for the last one year without any problems
if you understand how to manage clone dm800 then it works like original
the rule you should strict to "do not install image with secondstage boot loader more 69 on your internal flash of clone"
even if you do that no serious problem occurs, just it will stop at early reboot with error in small screen "error ca not found"
you can solve this probelm by reinstalling image with ss96 by dreamup
overheat problem in both original and clone and you can solve easily by low price laptop fan

Mmmmmh But the Dreambox 500 HD will cost in and around 260-280 pounds, compared to the 800 model selling for around the 400 mark , the 500 HD has a better chipset (Broadcom microprocessor 350 Mips unlike the 800 with a 300 MHz MIPS Processor.

Its not understood why the new 500 HD is more powerfull but with the same Features as the 800 without the internal Hard Drive or space for fitting, as its as easy to set up an external Hard Drive with its USB socket or mounting one via you home network ....

Here in Germany the Dreambox DM 800 HD PVR Ready sells for 399.90 Euro and the Dreambox 500 HD will be on sale around 260 -280 you are not getting much more with the 800 than with the 500HD.....for that extra 100 quid..

Due to the Dreambox 100 been a flop, Its expected the 600pvr will be slashed in price once the new 500 hits the shelves..

                      Regards:

ive got a contact who will sell me an 800hd clone for 130 quid, then 30 for delivery. who cares if it lasts a year

ive had a clone 500c for 2 years now with no problems.

not going to bother with the 500hd as it cant be used if cable changes to n3
