optical not working

i have a dm800 hd info below.

my problem is iv just got my self a 5.1 surround sound system. iv tried to connect the optical to the dm800 and then to my surround sound system but it wont work, its glowing red so it shows that side of things works but no sound. as the connector is dvi to hdmi it wont send digital sound so optical is my only way of getting good sound from my surround sound kit.
if i run the optical from my tv to the surround sound system i get sound but the quality is poor and there is a voice lag, it only works as stereo with ac3 downmix on, if its turned off i loose the sound., iv adjusted the down mix ect with the optical connected and that didn't make the optical work.
im wondering if any one has the answer to this problem, does the image need drivers for the optical and the newnigma2 has missing? if so is there a image that will make my optical work?

i have it all set up working perfect apart from this problem. auto bouquets and cross epg working as they should, so i only want to put a new image on if this is going to fix my problem.

if this isnt going to fix my problem and no one has a fix for this, what box is good value for money and is the same to set up as the dm800? as i will just sell my dm800 on ebay and get my self a different box.

so iv found out with the black hole image installed i still get no audio from the optical, has anyone got a dm800 set up by optical? what are the settings and image your running?
