Dead Dreambox DM800HDSE?

Yesterday, my Dreambox rebooted itself, then got stuck halfway while booting up. I tried to reflash the image and after a few times, I eventually got it to stop going round and round.

However, whenever I tried to scan for new channels, as soon as the 0% appeared and would be about to go to 1%, the box rebooted again. Duff tuner?

Well, today, I woke to find it completely dead. The green light inside was still on, but there was no output, nor any text on the OLED screen at the front. I unplugged it while I was at work, as a safety precaution more than anything, and I've tried plugging it in now but it's still the same. In fact, the green light hasn't come back on (for all the good that does).

I know there's power going in as the little green light on the power block is on, and the hard drives attached are showing as 'on', although obviously not spinning round because there's zilch going on inside the box.

I thought about buying a new tuner and putting that in, but if it's not that then I've wasted my money. Also, I think the best thing I can do is buy a new one and then sell the old one for spares/repair.

Any suggestions, please?

if it's a genuine box have you tried using a a/b usb cable and a dreamup panel
to clear the box, and then try flashing a image with this panel,

Ta for the suggestion. I looked all over and found a power supply that's 12V but only 2.5A instead of 3A. Am I right in thinking that's not good enough?

It's a clone, but has a mini-flashup button on the back if that helps. However, at the moment it won't even power up

Well, bugger me senseless! I've tried a different power supply, and there is life!

The only problem is that while the old PSU was 12V 3A, this one is 12V 2A, so while I'll let the box scan for new channels tonight, I think I'll unplug it after that while I'm out, until I get a new PSU. At least it means I can use the damn thing in the evening when I thought it was completely brown bread and I was panicking aplenty!

I did have a 12V 2.5A PSU, as mentioned earlier, but it's for my old Xbox 360 HD-DVD player and the connection isn't standard so it won't fit in the Dreambox.

And to think that the 12V 2A PSU I'm using at the mo is one which came from an old Freeview box that I should've thrown out ages ago and just haven't got round to it!

i have in the past used the power supply that came with a router
and found that worked great and never failed.

How many amps did that power supply have? This 2A one feels a bit hot, so I will order a 3A one as a precaution, and unplug the unit while I'm out of the house in the meantime.
